CST302 Personal Creed
Each section should include (a) 1–2 paragraphs on the evangelical view and
(b) 1–2 paragraphs on your own personal reflections (1 paragraph = 4–5
sentences). Be sure to include Scripture references in parentheses in the first
section (3 citations minimum).
Scripture and Truth
The Evangelical View: What do evangelical Christians believe about the inspiration, inerrancy, and authority of the Bible?
We believe the Bible is God’s true word. We believe God’s word was written exactly as intended
through the authors of the books. The inspiration of the Bible is that the word of God is led by God Himself. The writers of the Bible were led by God’s word. 16
All Scripture is God-
breathed
and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
17
so that the servant of God
[a
]
may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (
2 Timothy 3:16-17)
We believe that God’s word is truth. We believe the inherency of the Bible is to acknowledge scriptures full truth. We believe that the Bible is written without error. "No prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation. For prophecy never had its
origin in the will of man, but
men spoke from God
as they were carried along by the
Holy Spirit
." (2 Peter 1:20-21)
We believe that God’s word should be studied, followed, and spread. We believe the authority of the Bible is the holy spirit spoken through the prophets; that is divine speaking. We believe that the Bible is the authority for human belief. “
And the things you have heard me say in
the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.” (2 Timothy 2:2)
Personal Views and Reflections: What are your reflections on this doctrine? What is the source and standard of truth in your worldview?
I believe that God’s word is true. The Bible is inspired and led by God Himself. I believe that the Bible should be followed by us, the servants of God without doubt or uncertainty. I believe that the Bible is without error and the inspiration of God is in the Bible.
I believe that God’s word is truth and final. I believe that there is only one God. (1 Corinthians 8:4)
I believe God himself is the standard of truth. (John 14:6) I know this to be true because the Bible tell us so and the word of God should be followed and studied. I believe the inerrancy is to know that God’s word is never a lie. I believe that the word of God should be spread, like Paul spread the message of Jesus. I believe that God is the ultimate authority. I believe He has given us scripture as a guide to live in
this world. There are commandments of God that should be followed in order to make us more like Him.
God, The Holy Trinity
The Evangelical View: What do evangelical Christians believe about the nature of God and especially his existence as a Trinity of persons?
We believe that God is a trinity of persons, each omnipotent, omniscient, and wholly benevolent,
co-equal and fully divine. We believe that Jesus and God are one. John 10:30 “I and my father are one” We believe in one living and true God who is the Creator of heaven and earth, who is eternal, almighty, unchangeable, infinitely powerful, wise, just, and holy. Ephesians 4:4-6 “There
is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.” We believe there are four affirmations of the trinity: one God, three persons, equal in nature, and distinct in roles. 1 Corinthians 8:4 “
So
then, about eating food sacrificed to idols:
We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world”
and that “There is no God but one.” Personal Views and Reflections: What are your reflections on this doctrine? What are your own personal beliefs about God?
I believe that there is one true God, the creator of heaven and earth. I believe that the holy trinity exists as the father, the son, and the holy spirit. Matthew 28:19 “So
then, about eating food sacrificed to idols:
We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world”
and that “There is no God but one.” I believe that these three persons form the holy trinity. I believe that God is the father and creator of all things, Jesus is the son of God, and the holy spirit is the work of God on earth. Humanity and Sin
The Evangelical View: What do evangelical Christians believe about the nature of humanity as the image of God? What do they believe about original
sin?
We believe that God made man in His own image. Genesis 1:27 “
So God created
mankind
in his own image,
in
the image of God
he created them; male and female
he created them.” We believe that we should live accordingly to God’s plan and design. Jeremiah 29:11 “
For I know the plans I
have for you, declares the
L

, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” We believe that God gave us free will. Because of the free will given to humans, we are all born with sin. Romans 5:12 “Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and
death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned.” We believe that original sin is the result of Adam and Eve’s disobedience to God when they ate the fruit from the garden of Eden. From the lecture we learned this as “the fall”. Genesis 3:22 “
Then the
L
ORD
God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his
hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever…”
Personal Views and Reflections: What are your reflections on this doctrine? Do all human beings have equal dignity? Are humans basically good or evil?
I believe that God is reflected in all human beings. All human beings should be treated with respect and dignity. I believe that all humans are born with the tendency toward evil. God gave us the choice of free will. Genesis 3:5 “
For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Since we were made in God’s image, we will have the ability to know good from evil. The Person of Christ
The Evangelical View: What do evangelical Christians believe about the person of Christ and his two natures?
We believe Jesus is not two persons but has both attributes of deity and humanity. From the lectures: Jesus is fully divine, He has a divine name, divine attributes, acts, and worship. (Matthew 9: 1-8) (Matthew 28:17) Jesus is fully human, he was born, grew, and developed. (Luke 2:40,52) (John 4:6,7) Jesus is one individual, single person. Personal Views and Reflections: What are your reflections on this doctrine? Who is Jesus to you?
I believe that Jesus is the eternal son of God. I believe that Jesus is not 2 persons but is both of God and human. I believe that Jesus is not a mix of these two but is fully God and fully human. I believe that Jesus had divine attributes and was fully human. I believe Jesus was able to perform divine acts and had human limitations. 1 Timothy 2:5 “
For there is one God
and one mediator
between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,” The Work of Christ
The Evangelical View: What do evangelical Christians believe about what Christ accomplished in his life, death, and resurrection?

We believe that Christ was our prophet, priest, and king. We believe that Christ was obedient to his father God throughout his life. We believe that the work of Christ was to save mankind from eternal sin and give us eternal life. John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, t
hat whoever believes
in him shall not perish but have eternal life. We believe that Christ died on the cross to redeem us of the guilt of our sins. Romans 3:24 “and all are justified
freely by his grace
through the redemption
that came by Christ Jesus.” We believe that the resurrection of Christ granted us salvation. Through Christ’s resurrection we received new life. 2 Corinthians 5:17 “
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,
the new creation
has come:
[

The old has gone, the new is here!”
Personal Views and Reflections: What are your reflections on this doctrine? What do you believe about the claims of the Christian gospel?
I believe that through the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, we are granted forgiveness of our
sins, salvation, and ever lasting life. I believe that God is all powerful and loving and is our one and only true God. I believe that we are all born sinners. I believe that if we are not saved, we will be separated from God for all eternity. I believe that God sent His only son to die for our sins to give us everlasting life. I believe to be saved and have eternal life with God we must surrender our lives and have the ultimate faith in Jesus and God. Soteriology
The Evangelical View: What do evangelical Christians believe about the nature of salvation? Think specifically about the doctrines of justification, sanctification, and glorification.
We believe that salvation means to be saved from sin. We believe that we are in union with Christ and blessed with his name. Ephesians 1:3 “
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
who has blessed us in the heavenly realms
with every spiritual blessing in Christ.” We believe that justification is to be declared righteous. 2 Corinthians 5:21” God made him who had no sin
to be sin
for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” We believe that sanctification sets us apart to be devoted to the service of God. 1 Corinthians 6:11” And that is what some of you were.
But you were washed,
you were sanctified,
you were justified
in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” We believe that glorification is the last state of the believer. At the end of the age our bodies will be raised from the dead to be forever with the Lord. Job 19:25-26 “
I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed,
yet
in
my flesh I will see God;”
Personal Views and Reflections: What are your reflections on this doctrine? If sin is the “problem” with humanity, what do you believe is the solution? How can humans be “saved” in your worldview?
I believe that the simple solution to the problem of sin is through faith in Jesus. Mankind must come to see that there is one true God who has promised us everlasting eternity with Him. I believe that the way to salvation and eternal life is through faith in Jesus. Ephesians 2:8 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;” I believe that faith is the acceptance of Jesus Christ and confessing Him as your personal Lord and
Savior
.
By repenting and receiving the Lord as your savior one can have everlasting life. 1 John 5:11-13 “
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son.
Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.” Ecclesiology
The Evangelical View: What do evangelical Christians believe about the attributes, marks, and mission of the church?
We believe that the church is the people of God inside the temple of the holy spirit. We believe the attributes of the church are unity, holiness, Catholicity, and Apostolicity. Romans
12:4-5”
For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function,
so in Christ we, though many, form one body,
and each member belongs to all the others.”
We believe the true marks of the church are the right preaching of the word, the right administration of the sacraments, and church discipline. 2 Timothy 3:16 “
All Scripture is God-
breathed
and is useful for teaching,
rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,”
We believe the purpose of the church is for worship, fellowship, discipleship, service, and evangelism. Colossians 3:16 “
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Personal Views and Reflections: What are your reflections on this doctrine? What role does the church/community play in your own spirituality?
I believe that the church is crucial to my own personal spirituality. I value the community of the church. I believe when we gather, we can whiteness good examples of behaviors and beliefs that support my own spiritual growth. I believe by gathering together to worship and praise our Lord we are providing example and influence to the outside world. Hebrews 10:24-25 “
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,
not giving up meeting together,
as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Eschatology
The Evangelical View: What do evangelical Christians believe about the end times?
We believe that God has a divine plan for the end of everything. 1 Corinthians 2:9 “
However, as it is written: 'What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived' -- the things God has prepared for those who love him-“
The technical name for the subject of the end-times is
eschatology. We believe that the second coming will bring both living
and dead believers to
ascend
into
heaven
to meet
Jesus Christ
. We believe that no one will know the time that the end of days will come. Mark 13:32 “
But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” We believe that the book of Revelations describes some of the events that will take place at the end of time. We believe that the “final state” will be a restored place with resurrected believers in Christ reigning with Him forever. Revelation 21:4 “
He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Personal Views and Reflections: What are your reflections on this doctrine? What is the destiny of the world in your own understanding?
I believe in a divine destiny. I believe that God has a plan for all his children. Jeremiah 1:5 “
Before I formed you in the womb
I knew
you,
before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” I believe that we were made responsible for our decisions and our choices. I believe that those that had the opportunity to come to God and turn their backs on Him will have to face their own separate destiny. I believe that the children of God who follow and worship Him, will forever rejoice with Him in heaven.
