Unit 3: Video Deep Dive Before Watching the Videos Step 1: Read the following paragraph from The Family: A Proclamation to the World, and provide the information requested. "In THE PREMORTAL REALM, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshipped God as their Eternal Father and accepted his plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize their divine destiny as heirs of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.” 1. How does the doctrine of Pre-mortality impact or influence your understanding of the Plan of Salvation? the doctrine of pre-mortality enriches the understanding of the Plan of Salvation by providing insights into the divine origins of humanity, the purpose of mortal life, and the eternal significance of family relationships. It offers a broader perspective on the journey of the soul and underscores the central role of agency, progression, and eternal principles in God's plan for His children. 2. Paragraph three mentions a “plan” that we accepted before we came into mortality. What kind of plan was it? How would you explain the plan to another? (simplified) The plan mentioned in paragraph three refers to God's Plan of Salvation, sometimes called the Plan of Happiness or the Great Plan of Happiness. This plan outlines how individuals can progress toward perfection and ultimately return to living with God. In simplified terms, the plan can be explained as follows: Before we were born on earth, we existed as spirits in the presence of God, our Heavenly Father. During this time, we learned about God's plan for us and had the freedom to choose whether to follow it. God's plan includes coming to earth to gain a physical body and experience mortality. This earthly experience allows us to learn and grow through joys, challenges, and choices. Central to God's plan is the role of Jesus Christ. He came to earth, suffered, and died for our sins, providing a way for us to repent and be forgiven. We can
overcome sin and death through His Atonement and return to God's presence. God respects our agency, or our ability to choose between right and wrong. Our choices during mortal life determine our spiritual progress and the consequences we experience. After death, we will be judged according to our actions and desires. Those who have accepted Christ and lived according to God's commandments will inherit eternal life and dwell in God's presence. Families can be united forever through sacred ordinances performed in temples. God's plan is a path to help us become like Him, to experience joy, and to return to live with Him forever. It offers us the opportunity to learn, grow, and choose for ourselves, with the ultimate goal of achieving eternal happiness and progression. 3. How does obtaining a physical body help us gain experience and progress toward perfection? How do physical strengths and weaknesses contribute to our growth? Obtaining a physical body is a crucial aspect of the Plan of Salvation because it provides the opportunity for tangible, sensory experiences that are essential for our growth and progression toward perfection. it allows us to learn through experience, exercise agency, overcome challenges, develop character, and understand the role of the Atonement in our lives. Our physical strengths and weaknesses contribute to our growth by providing opportunities for learning, refinement, and spiritual development. 4. Why participate in ordinances? What role do they play in our progression and our ability to gain Eternal Life? participating in ordinances is essential for our progression and our ability to gain eternal life because they symbolize our commitment to God, provide access to priesthood power and authority, enable us to make sacred covenants, facilitate spiritual cleansing and renewal, grant access to higher blessings, and ensure the unification of families for eternity. While Watching the Videos Step 2:
Watch the three video segments linked on Canvas (I-Learn). While watching the videos, provide answers to the following questions. Questions: 1. What doctrines or principles (core concepts) were you taught during these video segments? Acknowledging the existence of a higher power involves understanding that there is a source of wisdom, love, and divine guidance beyond our selves. This recognition can inspire a sense of awe, reverence, and humility. Once we recognize the existence of a higher power, we can actively seek guidance from it. This can be done through prayer, meditation, reflection, and studying sacred texts or teachings. By opening ourselves to receive divine guidance, we invite insight, inspiration, and clarity into our lives. seeking eternal guidance from a higher power involves a profound recognition of divine presence, an active pursuit of divine wisdom and direction, and a willingness to align our lives with divine principles. It is a deeply personal and transformative journey that can lead to greater spiritual growth, understanding, and connection with the divine. 2. What impressions came to you? What were you personally taught during this Video Deep Dive session? God will always love us and he will always find a way to show his everlasting love for all of his children.
