2.
Article of Faith
Please identify the Article of Faith studied this week
Response: We studied the 5
th
article of faith. Which states “We believe that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.” This is talking about the power of the priesthood. 3.
Explanation of Key Events and
Scriptures
Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific scripture references from the assigned readings
Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several
insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria:
1.
200–300 words in length
(please include your word count at the bottom of the section).
2.
Include at least 3 scripture references
.
Response: This week we talked about the 5
th
article of faith, this talks the power of the priesthood. We also studied Moroni
chapter 3. This chapter is about the laying on of hands to receive the power of the priesthood, and the importance of
priesthood powers and teachers in the church. We should feel so blessed to have the priesthood in our daily lives. We also looked at D&C 22 which talks about the importance of baptism and how everyone needs to be baptized to reach the highest level of heaven. We also know that baptism needs to happen by someone who holds the priesthood. This just shows another importance in the priesthood and how we can’t get back to our Heavenly Father without the power of the priesthood. We also looked at Joseph Smith history chapter 1:68-72, this is about how Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery both got baptized and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. This is important part of our church history, and how the gospel was restored to the earth again. Without Joseph Smith restoring the gospel and the priesthood we would not be able to return to our Heavenly Father again.
Word Count:196 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
depression.
Response: Depression is something we all can deal with in one time or another in our lives. But we should be blessed to know that we have the restored gospel here on earth. We know that that Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery got baptized and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. We know this because of Joseph Smith history 1:68-72. Without this happening we would not have the priesthood or the power of laying on of hands. Because we have this power back on the earth today, we have the power to receive a priesthood blessing. A priesthood blessing is something we can ask for when we are in times of struggle or depression. We can also look at D&C 22 that talks about the power and importance of baptism, because of baptism we are cleansed and we have the power of repentance as well. Repentance is so important, because when we are feeling depressed or hurt we may do things we regret. If we do things we regret or don’t mean to do, we can repent and be cleansed again. We have a chance to be with our Heavenly Father and that is something to be truly grateful for. We can also look for hope and joy in D&C 128:9-11,20-
24, these passages are about restoring the gospel and how there is hope for the living and the dead. Because of this we should feel so grateful that even our dead relatives can have the peace of returning to our Heavenly Father. I would recommend that if you are ever feeling truly down to visit the temple and do some ordinances there. You can feel close to Heavenly Father and He can give you peace. Word Count:285
