For your accomplish this week I want you to review the passages in Mark dealing with the
authority of Christ. Then, answer the below questions.
1.
What do these passages tell us about Christ and the extent of his authority?
When reviewing the passages of Mark, it mentions the authority of Jesus to forgive sin,
perform miracles, and control the natural elements. The passages show us how Jesus has
authority over both physical and spiritual matters in the world. In the passage of Mark
2:1-12 Jesus heals a paralyzed man. Throughout the passages of Mark different people
question the authority of Jesus and he reveals his authority and power over the world and
mankind in many ways.
2.
What does having the authority to forgive sins tell us about Christ?
The authority to forgive sin was a power that was held by God, but he gave that authority
to his son Jesus Christ. It shows us that Jesus has a special relationship with his father and
is given the authority to act on his behalf. It shows us that his love for all people is
endless and beyond human understanding. His authority to forgive sin reveals the divine
nature Of Jesus Christ and his role as the Messiah. It shows us the medication between
God and humanity. Most importantly in my opinion it shows us his mercy and grace.
3.
How does Christ exercise authority over creation?
In Mark 4:35-41 Jesus calmed a storm over Galilee by speaking to the winds and the
waves. In Mathew 14:22-33 Jesus walked on water. He multiplied the bread and fish to
feed thousands of hungry people. The Bible teaches us how Jesus exercises his authority
over creation in many ways. They all demonstrate his divine power and sovereignty over
the world.
4.
How does his authority apply to our lives individually?
If we as individuals embrace the authority Jesus Christ that means, we recognize him as
our Lord and savior and have a personal relationship with him. The authority of Jesus has
the power to transform our lives by being able to overcome sin and live accordingly to his
teachings. His authority provides us with guidance and directions for our lives. His
authority brings clarity and purpose to our lives and helps us make choices and decisions
that align with his teachings. His authority shows us how to serve others and sets us free
from the power of sin. Finally, and most important, embracing his authority gives us the
assurance of eternal life.
