Passage: Acts 2:14-24 Explanation: I selected this passage because we see the importance of the baptism of the Holy Spirit and how it can change people completely from who they used to be. It is Peter’s first time in public really since he was with Jesus before his crucifixion. It is a new man emboldened with the Holy Spirit. But also what he is saying is very important, he is reiterating the prophecy of Joel of what is finally upon the world. Peter talks about what the prophecy really meant and how it all died to the pouring out of the Holy Spirit after Jesus’s death and resurrection. Prayer: Lord, I pray that I will gain further understanding of what is being spoken in these verse so I can apply them to my own life. The Holy Spirirt is still a bit of a mystery. Although my life has been lots of ups and downs, lots of doubt. I hope that I can instead be faithful and diligent in my pursuit of you. I have a desire to know you more but often get overwhelmed by all instructions and information. I pray that I can find a real relationship with you through the Holy Spirit instead of the shallowness I am in righ now. Passage: Acts 2:14-24
Main Points: The main point of this passage from Peter is that he speaks to the people of Israel of what has come to pass reminding them of the procpechy of Joel and what it really means. The Holy Spirirt has been poured and is asking them to believe in Jesus and his resurrection. Summary: In this passage Peter is spreading the news of the gospel but also of the coming of the Holy Spirit to the Israelites by his own words and those from the prophet Joel. Passage: Acts 2:14-24

Who: I will teach my one of my best friends for most of my life. Where: Over the phone What and How: I plan to teach on the importance of the impact being baptised in the Holy Spirit. Second, teach about the impact that it has on one's life like Peter. And most likely save the bulk of the passage which is the prophecy for last. The first step would be to read the passage and meditate on God’s word for a bit before diving in. After going through the verses and evaluating certain words and their origins that shed some more light and bring some additional understanding. I would also take some time to find educational videos covering the passage of Acts 2:14-24. Review the class textbooks and also any historical significance that would also be relevant to the verses. Lastly, after going over everything above, do some praying and ask God for wisdom and understanding. I believe the Lord has used this assignment to bring about some awareness that I need to definitely spend some more time in the books of Acts. The Holy Spirit has been sort of a mystery
still in my walk as a Christian and this is an open door or invitation to try to dive in deeper. I hope that I can further understand the Holy Spirit and perhaps receive baptism like Peter and the apostles do considering all the hardships and spiritual afflictions going on in my own life. The books of Acts, specifically the first several chapters are a great place to learn more about God and apply it for myself for the rest of my life. I hope that the Lord will further reveal himself to me and give me more understanding when reading over the texts talking about the Holy Spirit and prophecies. In the areas that went well, I think I was able to pick a useful and relevant passage for my own life and the lives of others that I know. I think a big area of improvement I can work on is giving the passage I chose a little more context. I should probably start the passage a little bit further back, having the passage lead up to Peter and the rest of the apostles being baptized in the fire of the Holy Spirit. That way the people that I could share this previous passage with would have a better grasp of why and how Peter is doing what he is doing in Acts 2:14-24. But I do believe that trying to teach people about the importance of repenting from our sins and receiving the Holy Spirit was something that went well. But I still do not understand if receiving the Holy Spirit within you is different or the same as being baptized in the fire of the Spirit. So I definitely need to try and further my understanding of the word here in Acts so that I do not confuse anyone who asks a question on that topic. The feedback I received I thought was good, I kept the teaching relatively basic. As I mentioned before, I emphasized the importance of turning our lives around, and submitting to God, so that we may receive all that Christ has promised us so that we may be properly equipped to handle the challenges of a Christian life. I would probably alter quite a few things with my teaching plan if I was to do this again. As briefly mentioned before I would expand the passage to have a few more verses included to add extra context to the overall message. I would also like to ask some better and deeper questions to really
make whoever I ask to have them dig within themselves and answer some hard truths. Another alteration to the plan would be not to talk to someone over the phone about a topic like this. This is a very important and thought-provoking topic. As useful as a phone can be, I believe that it would be much better to have the conversation face to face instead of over the phone, or something similar like over zoom. Lastly, I think I could just choose a different passage in Acts that I feel a little more comfortable teaching about. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not a simple topic to talk about, let alone teach. I personally do not think I am capable of teaching the Holy Spirit, its baptism, and speaking in tongues proficiently in my current place as a Christian. I myself am I Christian and I can say that I have not been baptized in the fire of the Holy Spirit, I am certain that is a moment that you cannot mistake for anything else. I want to be and hope to be, so I think that is another requirement to teach this stuff personally. If I do not have the Holy Spirit, how can I possibly hope to teach someone something I myself do not fully understand? So, most importantly if I do hope to ever teach on this again, I hope to at the bare minimum have had the blessing of being baptized in the fire of the Holy Spirit. Overall, I enjoyed this series of planning to teach ona section of the Bible to a friend or a family. It seems to be very useful for me and I will make sure to store this away in case I want to try to teach anyone about the word of God.
