What are they? - The Pharoh enslaves the Israelites (Ex.1:11-14); Pharaoh commands that every Hebrew boy must be killed at birth (Ex.1:15-21); He commands to throw Hebrew boys into the Nile River and the girl let live (Ex. 1:22-2:10). 2. The powerlessness of Pharaoh is shown in four ways: - The pharaoh had no power to control the Israelites, his children was his weakness, he did not own them and God is stronger and more powerful so he cannot defeat God. 3. The mother’s plan to save Moses shows great planning. List some of the ways. For 3 months she hid Moses and then she put Moses on a basket and ask his daughter to release him in the Nile River. 4. God is only mentioned in three verses. What does the writer want us to know about God? Although the author only mentions God’s name three times, he wants us to know that God was present in all what happened in Egypt. God used people as instruments to do his will. 5. Exodus 3:4-7 (see below) keeps switching back and forth from Yahweh to Elohim to Yahweh. Either this piece of text is a confusion of edited sources, or the writer has a purpose in switching back and forth between God and Yahweh. Assume the text is a literary whole. What might the purpose be in switching back and forth between Lord and God? 3.4 When the L ORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” 6 And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God . 7 Then the L ORD said , “I have surely seen the affliction of my people who are in Egypt and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters. I know their sufferings. God is God of Abraham, and nothing can change it. So, being Lord or God, the Moses purpose is let it Clear. God is God of Abraham to his time and to ours. 6. What information does this text reveal about Moses? This text reveals that Moses was chosen to lead the Israelites to their freedom from Egyptians, or well saying from Egypt.
7. List the excuses that Moses gives for not being sent to Egypt to rescue his people. “I don’t have ability”. “I don’t know what to say”. “ I don’t have any authority or a position”. “I am not a good speaker”. “Oh Lord, please send someone else”. 8. What is missing from Moses’ excuses? (In other words, what does he not tell Yahweh?) - He is afraid to Pharaoh and to God. 9. Why might Moses not want to go back to Egypt? What two things do we learn from the two verses below? 4:18 Moses went back to Jethro his father-in-law and said to him, "Please let me go back to my brothers in Egypt to see whether they are still alive." And Jethro said to Moses, "Go in peace." 19 And the LORD said to Moses in Midian, "Go back to Egypt, for all the men who were seeking your life are dead." There is a mutual respect between Moses and his father-in-law Jethro, when Moses tells Jethro about his decision and Jethro that supports him in his decision. 11. Why do you think the Lord is trying to kill Moses in 4.24-26? Moses’ sins almost made God kill him. 12. What is the first plague and why is it the first plague? The first plague God turns into blood the Nile River, to show the Egyptians that He is the Lord. 13. What are the 7 th , 8 th , and 9 th plagues, and what is the purpose of each? 7 th plague: has a purpose to attack Nut, the sky goddess; Osiris the fertility god and Set the storm god, The hail was unlike any that had been seen before and became a fire that devasted all. 8 th plague: as the 7 th plague the locusts again focused on Nut, Osiris and Set. All crops that had survived the hail now were devoured by the swarms of locusts. The Egypt lose all the harvest. 9 th plague: The darkness was aimed the Sun god Re, symbolized by Pharaoh. The Egypt was smothered with complete darkness for 3 days, while the Israelite’s house was in the light. 14. Discuss the steps of the first Passover, as detailed in Exodus. The Passover was marked by kill of firstborn sons of the Egyptians by Angel of death. Moses orders the Israelites to sacrifice a lamb and smear the blood on the door houses. The angel pass over the houses with the blood. The Passover is commemorated by Israelites until today to remember what God made that night. 15. Who is struck down by the Lord on Passover night?

(What kind of theophany does he give them?) God revealed himself on Mont Sinai to the Israelites. With thunders and lightning. He gave the 10 commandments to Moses. 21. (Ch 21) What is the requirement for an Israelite who buys a Hebrew servant? That the servant must serve for 6 years, but in the seventh year he shall go free. If he comes alone, he goes free alone, but if he has wife comes with him, she goes with him. If the master gives him a wife and he have kids, all of them shall belong to her master. Only the man shall go free. 22. (Ch 21) What is kidnap slavery and what are the rules governing it? That anyone who kidnaps someone is to be put to death, whether the victim has been sold or is still in the kidnappers possession. 23. (Ch 21) What other protection does Yahweh decree for servants? That anyone who beats their male of female slave with a rod and the slaves dies as a result, he must be punished.
