Greetings Seth, First, I would like to give a genuine thank you for your willingness to serve on the front lines in the name of defense of this great nation that we love. I personally identify with your statement, “I have a clear record in the Army, yet my record before God not so much i.e. I’ve sinned against my God.” I too am an Infantryman, who returned to the Army after a large break in service, to become a Chaplain – Because the mission field is vast within our formations, yet it presents a unique challenge in that you must possess a level of “roughness” to minister to those who have trained to be warriors for our nation. Thank you for answering the call, on both of these fronts. Perhaps you and I will cross paths down the road, and have the opportunity to do ministry together! I am praying for you brother! That said, I found the theological theme of God’s triune nature to be comforting within this week's readings. Hamilton points out that the “us” reference within Genesis 1:26, 18:17 refers to the plurality of the Godhead, as God addresses both the Son, and the Spirit. 1 Being reminded that God wraps around us completely in power, is passion, and in comfort, strengthens the believer even when they are walking through the valley of the shadow of death. Our bodies are home to the Spirit because the blood of the Son has provided propitiation for our record before God. Furthermore, in relation to the theological themes of man, that we were created in the image and likeness of God alludes to the intentionality with which, and the purposes for which He created mankind. Hamilton points out, “The human being is not simply an image of God, but a likeness-image. That is, more than simply representative, human beings are representational of the invisible God.” 2 Brother, I am praying for you in this season of equipping, as well as your current and future ministry in the ranks of our Infantryman.
