PPLICATION Passage: Acts 19:11-22
What points of application can be made using the “Four Questions for Application?” State and explain 1 point of application for each of these four questions. Your explanation for each
of these points should be 1 paragraph (200-300 words) in length, clearly connected to a part of this passage (by way of a verse quotation and/or citation), specific to this passage, and relevant.
1. The Question of Duty
In Acts 19:11-22 God works powerful miracles with the hands of the Apostle Paul. “God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that touched him were taken to the sick, and their illness were cured, followed by the evil spirits leaving them.”(Acts 19:11-12 NIV) When the Seven Sons of Sveca and the Jewish priest tried to perform the magic, and then were met with the evil spirit taunting them to where they
were naked and wounded. Many Jews and Greeks heard of the evil spirits and were afraid they effortlessly gave us their magic books and burned them which totaled 50,000 silver coins and worshiped themselves to none other than God Himself. God wants us to worship him and follow him so the one best thing to do is to never spread evil and worship him effortlessly. Shall we fall short, we can always remember God’s love and how he works miracles throughout our hearts and free us from evil spirits. Being a follower of God and Jesus Christ will surround you with individuals who feel the same way and just your spirit and fellowship may change someone’s personal duty to God.
2. The Question of Character
God performed miracles and uncommon things through the hands of Paul as he was faithful and obedient. He had many Christlike qualities for example throughout his writings in the New Testament he mentions love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. In Acts 19:11-22, God uses Paul's clothing that had touched with his skin to heal the sick yet Paul did not stumble in egotism, self-confidence, or
pride. This could have easily been a stepping stone as they were Paul's clothes, and not the clothes of Jesus. The lesson of character we can learn is being humble in Colossians 3:12-14 NIV, Paul writes to the church that God has picked out a wardrobe of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Proverbs 22:4 NIV tells us the story of the reward for being humble is riches, honor, and a satisfying life-It is important that we strive to remain humble in all walks of life with the Lord. The ancient Jewish members were able to memorize the scriptures, where they used this information in a controlling manner. In our entire life we have been taught that knowledge is power and while yes knowledge is power we must argue that humility is the greatest achievement we can have. For example the
greatest act of humility a lot of religious followers can reference is Jesus himself in Philippians 2:5-8.
3. The Question of Goals
Acts 19:11-22 covers Paul's Journey to Jerusalem, passing through Macedonia and Achaia, Paul's objective to journey to Jerusalem was not driven by personal ambition but was
a crucial component of his broader mission to disseminate the Gospel and support fellow believers.Acts is a call to action for us to contemplate the nature of our goals and aspirations, challenging us to focus on whether our goals primarily serve our self-interest or are connected to a more comprehensive mission aimed at serving hers and advancing to the kingdom of eternal life. From Acts 19:11-22 We can learn we must be humbled and set goals
within ourselves…For an example we live in a world where we are greedy and humbled, I am greedy for an education, financial stability and a life where money is not a issue yet I am humble for all the experiences I have been able to experience this far in life. 4. The Question of Discernment
In Acts chapter 19:15, we encounter invaluable insights dealing with spiritual
matters. The passage portrays the Seven Sons of Sceva and the Jewish priest attempting to cast out demons by using the name of Jesus. While performing, the evil Spirit
immediately recognizes their lack of lawful authority and spews out of the individual and says to them,“Jesus I know, and Paul I know about, but who are you?" (Acts
19:15 NIV).This incident views the importance of spiritual judgment, and highlights the need
for a high intelligence of the power and authority that flows from a genuine relationship with
Christ. It also draws our attention to the fact that our spiritual practices and actions must be
grounded in an authentic and sincere faith with Jesus. In conclusion, Acts 19:11-22 offers an inspiring message that challenges us to a genuine and deep relationship with Jesus, exercising discernment and relying upon His supreme authority in all our spiritual practices and actions.
