Topic 4 Discussion Question 2
DQ2: According to the Christian worldview, how does one gain eternal life? Use Bible verses to support your response. How does the Christian concept of the afterlife differ from that concept in other worldviews? In the Christian worldview, the afterlife is viewed as having two end results: Heaven or Hell. Heaven being a place for those who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, of unlimited joy and a fellowship with God. Hell, on the other hand, is seen as a place for those who rejected Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, of endless separation with God and misery. They believe to obtain eternal life one must have faith in Jesus “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16NIV) However, other worldviews see the afterlife differently, some like Atheist do not believe in an afterlife therefore; they do not believe they will be with God or Pantheists where some believe in
reincarnation and an afterlife just with a different view on how they get there. “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NIV)
