The fall is referenced as when sin first entered the world through the sin of Adam and Eve.

The reality that all humans are born under the condition of sin.
3. What happened at the Council of Orange?
Sinning started to become something that people would get punished for.
4. What does true humanity look like?
True humanity looks like Jesus Christ.
5. Where must the doctrine about human beings find its basis?
In the lives of the people around them

Humans aren’t pure spirits like angels but are also not purely physical like beasts.

imago Dei
define the following terms:
A. Substantial View Residing in some capacity or feature of our existence that
lets us relate to God in a way that other animals cannot.
B. Functional View The unique function human beings have in caring for God’s
creation. The image of God is reflected in the God-given authority and responsibilities that only
humans can have.
C. Relational View Because of God’s triune nature, emphasizing God’s life and
having a perfect relationship between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, humans were also created
to be in existence with others.
Oden
- John Wesley’s Scriptural Christianity - “Sin”
1. What was the result of original sin?
Sin leads to alienation from God, humanity, creation, and true selfhood.
2. According to Wesley, does original sin imply that humanity lacks moral choice? Why?
Wesley says that original sin does not imply that humanity lacks moral choice because God is
forever offering to lead humanity toward saving grace
3. How did Wesley define sin?
He says sin is a willful and intentional turning away from God's will and rejecting His love and
grace.
4. What is the link between redemption and original sin?
Without God’s grace leading to redemption, we have no hope of deliverance from the control of
original sin over us

- Chapter 5 - “Reflecting God’s Image” - pages 108-116
1. A phrase used often towards the end of this chapter is “true human.” What does it
mean to you to be truly human?
To me, being truly human relates to living a life with sin but being able to be set free from that
sin through Jesus Christ. However, being truly human also means having the choice to hold on to
and personally handle sin or do let it go. This brings me to the aspect of being free as a person. I
think one of the most important aspects of being a true human is being able to live freely,
whether that is with or without God, all humans are free and not forced to believe.
Oden
- John Wesley’s Scriptural Christianity - “Sin”
1. How has sin affected culture?
In some type of way, I feel as if sin has become some type of competition among Christians. I
feel as if it is normalized to point out and condemn someone else for their sin while ignoring
their own personal sin. This puts a type of “rank” on sin, that I think goes against how God sees
sin. This also normalizes in our culture to pretend to have a perfect “sinless life,” but in all
reality, absolutely no one lives a life without sin or is superior to the other.
