Assessment
Course Work
100%
(Includes reflections, quizzes/tests [written and oral], short individual projects)
*There will not be a final exam, but it will be replaced by an individual culminating project.
A wide range of assessment information is used in the development of a student’s final grade. In Edmonton Catholic Schools,
individualized assessments provide specific information regarding student progress and overall performance in class.
Assessment may vary from student to student, differentiating for various student needs. It should also be noted that not all
assignments are used to determine the final grade, and that scale factors may have been used
to determine the weight of
individual assignments.
Required Materials
Students are expected to bring these materials to
each
class

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Welcome
to Religion 9. Religious Education is an essential and integral part of the life and culture of a Catholic school.
Students
are invited to develop the
knowledge, skills, beliefs, values, and attitudes
needed to build a relationship with God and
community, through the person of Jesus Christ and critically think about how their faith is aligns with their choices, actions,
words, and worldview.
While Religion 9 is not specifically a subject in the International Baccalaureate program, we will consider the themes/topics
covered in Religion 9, through an IB lens and seek to appropriate the Learner Profile so that students will understand how the
Learner Profile is seen in a student of Religion.
Be with Me
Grade 9 Religious Education assists young people in understanding both the joy and the demands of
following in the way of
Christ
and living out the faith that our community professes in the Creed. Using the
Beatitudes
as a touchstone, students are
invited to examine the attitudes and actions that characterize the Christian life. Students are encouraged to understand and
nurture within themselves the virtues which will enable them to deepen their relationship with God in and through Christ in the
context of a spirit-filled community.
Course Overview
Several themes will be explored through the study of ten units:
Unit 1: Be with Me.
Unit 2: Be Alive.
Unit 3: Be Faithful.
Unit 4: Be Loving.
Unit 5: Be Obedient.
Unit 6: Be Just.
Unit 7: Be Honest.
Unit 8: Be Generous.
Unit 9: Be Forgiving.
Unit 10: Be Hopeful.
Expectations
1.
Come to each class prepared and on time. [Attendance/Punctuality].
2.
Take part in all classroom discussions and activities to the best of your ability. [Participation/Contribution].
3.
Complete assignments on time and with care and attention. Sloppy, unfinished, or careless work will be returned to you
for proper completion. [You are responsible for checking your Google Classroom frequently to ensure you have the
notes and are aware of the assignments for Religion 9].
4.
Treat your learning environment with respect. Clean up after yourself and no not write or deface any school property,
including desks.
5.
Treat your fellow classmates and teacher with the respect they deserve. Put-downs, name-calling and other verbal
abuse
will not
be tolerated. [Human dignity is the first of many of our Catholic Social Teachings].
Homework and Assignments:
Assignments must be completed by the date due. Assignments not completed and turned in
by the assigned date
are
considered NHI and measures will be taken to ensure timely completion of the assignment. If a student is absent on the date
work is due or on the day of a quiz/exam, the assignment or exam is due the first day the student returns to school. The
gradebook will reflect an “NHI” [not handed in] so that you and your parents have real time information on your performance in
the course.
Once the assignment has been completed/graded, the NHI will be changed.
If it has not been completed/submitted
by the date provided, the NHI will remain, and this will be switched to “0” when the Google Classroom is archived. Assignments
will not be taken in after that time.
Parents will be contacted if the problem persists so that the situation can be resolved with their intervention.
Please refer to PowerSchool for updates and student feedback throughout each semester to track student progress.
