Report
Good Morning Everyone, There are many reasons that research is important for community psychology. Utilizing different scientific methods and procedures is often how psychologist conduct their research. This is especially noted when it comes to conducting observations, creating theories, gathering information, and deciphering the results of the research predictions. A community-based psychologist has to observe a specific community to define and gauge the individual’s behaviors within that community. A scientific research example of community psychology is the risk of violence and abuse within the particular community. A peer reviewed article I found for this topic is “The need for inclusion of psychological trauma in the professional curriculum: A call to action” by Courtois & Gold. The findings in this article unfortunately notes that this violence does happen, and not only in predicted lower income families but also within wealthy families. Community psychologists have made various community-based documentation of the high rates of violence in the form of domestic violence towards women and children. When someone is exposed to trauma that is so interpersonal, such as violent acts against women in particular, has shown above all negative consequences for the victims, which includes the extent of serious mental and even potentially physical health complications (Courtois & Gold, 2009). The scientific methods that were utilized in this type of community-based psychology research is that the community population was a majority of Caucasian women, and the demographics evidence came from a shelter that specifically housed women and children that came from cases of domestic violence history.
