It is estimated that approximately 5% of adults worldwide suffer from this disorder. The defining characteristics of depression include persistent feelings of sadness and a diminished interest or pleasure in activities that were once enjoyable. Additionally, it can disrupt sleep patterns and appetite, leading to fatigue and difficulties in concentration. Depression is a major contributor to disability on a global scale and significantly impacts the overall burden of disease. The causes of depression are multifaceted, involving intricate interactions between social, psychological, and biological factors. Adverse life events, such as childhood adversity, loss, and unemployment, can contribute to the development of depression and may act as catalysts for its onset. Various treatment options are available for depression, including psychological therapies and pharmacological interventions. However, in low- and middle-income countries, access to these treatments and support services is often limited or inadequate. Shockingly, it is estimated that more than 75% of individuals with mental disorders in these countries do not receive the necessary treatment they require. Depression and its associated mental disorders can have far-reaching effects on all aspects of an individual's life. It can impair academic performance, hinder productivity in the workplace, strain relationships with family and friends, and limit participation in community activities. Furthermore, research has established strong links between depression and physical health conditions such as tuberculosis and cardiovascular disease. Depression does not discriminate and can affect individuals of all ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, and nationalities. It is worth noting that women are more susceptible to experiencing depression compared to men. Explain how the article ties into the concept from the text. o The article focuses on the treatment of Bipolar Disorder by discussing various therapeutic approaches and interventions that aid in the prevention of depression and address its underlying causes. The onset of major depressive disorders often stems from an individual's perception of

themselves and their surroundings. The presence of negative thought patterns plays a significant role in driving individuals towards experiencing MDDs, underscoring the importance of implementing these therapies and treatments to foster avoidance.
