These assessments have been very eye opening to say the least and though I like to assume I have a pretty good grasp on who and what I stand for, this emotional intelligence assessment was very intriguing to say the least. I know emotions are a part of our daily lives and that they are part of who we are, but I never really thought about the importance of them on a professional level until now. According to the assessment I overall scored a 59 out of a 75 and when you break it down per category, I am pretty level on the fields. I don’t excel at any one and I don’t really lack one either. Which I would assume to be a good thing. How is this assessment and its results valuable and relevant to you? I personally think that knowing where I stand on the EI level is not only valuable at a professional level but a personal level also. I say this because it allows me to not only know my strengths but my weaknesses and gives me the opportunity to know if I am personally able to handle certain situations at hand for any given reason, for example I scored and 11 on motivation; this make PERFECT sense to me because I tend to procrastinate, always have. With this assessment it gave us ways to improve in these areas like finding what motivates me, what emotion I am feeling that is causing me to procrastinate and breathing (which I am better at advising others on and not myself). With these tips I could easily be able to refocus on said goal and get myself in a better emotional and mental status to reach it.
What did you learn about yourself? I did learn that I am well rounded. I was sure that when it came to social skills and motivation, I would have scored less but on the other hand I figured I would have scored higher on empathy. The self- awareness category was also surprisingly high compared to what I would have figured for myself, but I was pleased with the results and now know where I need to improve and thanks to the tips after words how I can do that efficiently. How and where will you apply these results in your professional life? By being able to see my EI laid out for me I am now able to see my strengths and weaknesses and I can be more aware of how I handle situations. This EI assessment will allow me to work on the areas in which I am weakest in to work towards a better position at work and be able to be a better part of my team, for example, working on my self-regulation currently. When you first meet me a lot of people assume I am a witch, but you know with a b…. Once they get to know me that isn’t the case but with working on my self-regulation, I need to focus on how other people may perceive my words and or actions. Usually, my body language and RBF is an issue when I am first seen and though I know this I don’t focus on how to make it less intimidating, especially when I am assigned to train a new person at work. Which areas would you like to focus on to improve your emotional intelligence skills? This is a tough one, I believe all these areas are important for our EI and I feel like focusing on just one could possibly allow the others to slack, in a
perfect world I would love to grow all areas but choosing just one I think that I would have to go with, empathy. Now empathy is not my lowest scored area but the reason I chose this is because I think being empathic in this day in age is extremely important and, we really lack empathy. I also figured I would score higher in this area, and I do try very hard to be empathic and non-judgmental of people. According to the tips and tricks there are a few ways to help with this including but not limited to, withholding judgement and paying attention to emotions and body language.
