2 Prepare Interview Questions Making decisions is an essential component of humanity. Every day, individuals make both tiny and major decisions that have a direct influence on their lives. The actions we take, indirectly influence individuals who we are closest to and civilization as a whole (Suveren, 2022). Everyone has demonstrated implicit behavior at some point, which is stereotyping others or a group of people outside his/her own cognizant awareness. In reference to youth violence, I have also been guilty of unconscious bias at one time or another by categorizing certain groups of teenagers from the north side of Milwaukee with violent acts that occur within the community. I realized that for me, unconscious bias started at a young age, and learned that one’s brain is supposed to work that way because every human takes in a great deal of information every minute. But, one is only consciously aware of a small amount of it. Unconscious bias can be a favorable thing and can also have ramifications, and can also influence violence. Youth crime is a serious public health problem. Intervention programs recognize and link kids at risk of recurring interpersonal assault injury with the tools they need to address their contributing factors and enhance their quality of life (Watkins et al, 2021). With all of the crime and violence going on in the city, I am interested in learning what community leader, Derek Mosley, thinks about the level of crime and violence perpetrated by residents in the city and how we, as a community, can remedy the issue. Interview Questions 1. What does the word “community” mean to you and what do you believe makes a robust community? 2. What inspired you to pursue community leadership? 3. What do you think are the greatest challenges community leaders face today?
3 4. I understand that unconscious bias can affect how one leads. Do you believe that unconscious bias is interrelated to violence in the community? Why or why not? 5. Unconscious bias exists in law enforcement as well. How do you think law enforcement can depart from these behaviors when dealing with people in the community? 6. What do you think could be the solution to curb the youth violence within the community? 7. What are some systems or frameworks you’ve used to effectively increase engagement with the people in the community? 8. What do you think is the most effective strategy to foster community relations? 9. Who are your role models/heroes? 10. What advice can you offer someone who desires to become a community leader?
