For this week's discussion, I decided to focus on the opinions of cognitive and behavioral psychologists in this case. I picked them because they represent two very different perspectives. Cognitive psychology is concerned with the mental thinking processes of your brain, whereas behavioral psychology is concerned with the actions and surroundings that impact your processes. Cognitive Psychologist: I think Sarah feels this way because of the way she thinks. Behavioral Psychologist: That's not how I see it; I think Sarah's fear and despair are taught behaviors that she carries with her. Cognitive Psychologist: I think we need to look deeper into her mind and deal with the problem from the root. We must go into her background, especially her time in middle school and her parent's separation. Behavioral Psychologist: This strategy doesn't work for me; instead, we should show her how to handle all of the demands on her life in order to get over her unhappiness and worry.
