Week 1: The Three Pillars Ecological Framework: - Ecological theory pioneered by Urie Bronfenbrenner - The ecological perspective frames CYC practice across North America and Europe - CYC practice has used various models such as: - The umbrella model - Cube model - Onion model - Web model - Cube Model: - Extension of the umbrella model - Three-dimensional interaction between practice settings, age and development of the target population, and core generic practice functions - Web model: - Jennifer White (2007) - Moves away from ecological systems - Involves community, political, institutional social culture, interpersonal and organizational influences - Umbrella model: - Developed in 1993 - Focuses on a broad scope of CYC practice, various settings and levels of training and education programs that are available to prepare practitioners to work in the field - Onion model: - Similar to an ecological system - Onion layers (each layer represents various systems within) Trauma Informed Care - An approach to practice that recognizes and responds to the impact of trauma on individuals' lives - Emotional and psychological trauma - Involves a threat to one's physical and emotional well being The 3 E’s: - Event(s) - abuse, violence, accidents, global pandemic - Experience - one or a series of events, set of circumstances, can be acute - Effects - fight, flight, freeze, hypervigilant, scanning, nightmares - All are connected ^ The Three Pillars: - One critical aspect of the therapeutic approach to healing from trauma: - Creating trauma-free environments - Safety - do they feel safe, calm and protected - Connections - relational
