DQ 2.1 Pinel & Barnes (2021), explain the interaction of biological and psychological (biopsychosocial) factors in understanding the relationship between brain and behaviour which is based on the knowledge and techniques from a range of discipline including neuroscience, psychology, and biology. This approach in counseling can be crucial because everyone is uniquely different, and each individual is affected by different biological, psychological, and social factors which can in turn have an effect on their overall well-being (Gilbert, 1995). As a future counselor, I can use biopsychosocial approach to gain more comprehensive understanding of my clients’ psychological concerns which can be related to their physical and a social issue and therefore may require a personalized treatment. Biopsychosocial approach will enable me to consider the various factors that contribute to a client's presenting issues and make a suitable interventions plan for my clients. For example, if a client is experiencing symptoms of depression, I will consider not only their psychological state but also their social support system and potential biological factors, such as a history of mental health issues in the family (Collins, 2020). What do you think about the potential challenges or limitations of using the biopsychosocial framework in counseling practice? References Collins, S. (2020).
