7 There is a belief that the primary component of emotional behavior disturbance is due to irrational beliefs in which REBT aims to identify rational thoughts and promote positive functioning (). Personal Philosophies and Views Evaluation of Evidence Supporting REBT The distinguished level of the scoring guide state: Evaluates the evidence base supporting a main theory of counseling by supporting ideas with peer-reviewed academic journal articles. For this section, it is useful to expand your database search for empirical studies demonstrating the application of this counseling theory with a specific population. You will then summarize the methodology, results and clinical implications. Appropriateness of REBT for Diverse Populations Enji is of Japanese origin and still follows the principles held by his culture. The views on mental health are different from westernized beliefs and Enji can have conflicting thoughts on receiving help. Practitioners applying REBT are expected to be accepting regardless of a difference in culture or beliefs. REBT is especially beneficial for those that have faced prejudice or bullying by encouraging justice seeking opportunities when necessary and accepting when they cannot (Corey, 2023). REBT identifies irrational beliefs (IBs) as the primary component of emotional and behavioral disturbances and identifies rational beliefs (RBs) as the antidote to such disturbances and helpful in promoting positive functioning.
