The video includes guardians and parents who live with children suffering from autism. One parent indicated that the parents of autistic children often stick together because they have to. They highlight the primary challenges that the individual parents often face, such as having to write down what the children are doing to work on it later. They also state that the activity is time-consuming for the parents and they often find it challenging to participate in other activities like parents who have normal children. Another challenge that parents face is that other people do not understand what it is to have an autistic child. The parents are judged more harshly and more constantly and expected to do things that no humans should be expected to do. One of the most essential issues is to teach the children well. Autism takes the joy of having a baby away as it leaves parents full of fear. According to a parent in the video, the rate of divorce for parent having children with autism is approximately 80 percent. It is also an expensive activity to care for the children with autism. In the presentation this week Autism Every day, (click above link to watch) several families share their challenges with having a child with autism. As you reflect on the topics of this week and what you have learned so far throughout this course, consider how collaboration and community supports would benefit these families. Answer the following questions in your thread: What types of community support(s) would you recommend to one of these families (consider therapy services, home support, community support, transportation services, etc.). Research and share one service provider within your state or community that offers the support your recommended. Why did you choose this support and service?
