The client relaxes in front of the therapist and expresses their true feelings. This dialogue helps the therapist and the client establish a trusting relationship. Individuals are taught to accept themselves totally, warts and all, through a person-centered approach. When a client accepts all aspects of themselves, good and negative, they may be able to make better decisions to improve their lives ..Person- centered therapy is most suited for clients suffering from depression, anxiety, or other mental illnesses; nevertheless, this therapeutic method can benefit anybody who want to be more self- reflective and make improvements. According to Cepeda and Davenport (2006), therapists assist clients by enabling here and now experiences with the therapeutic connection that allow clients to become conscious of their real sentiments. Importance of Genuineness When a counselor does not demonstrate empathy or care for a client, it can lead to mistrust in the therapist-client relationship. When a client maintains a degree of trust with the therapist, this might be the beginning point for the client to begin the process of making life-changing decisions. When therapists demonstrate real concern for their clients, the client will feel at ease being vulnerable to the therapist. therapist is genuinely there to assist, the treatment process may stagnate. When a counselor disagrees with a client, it can be difficult to sustain the connection. In EFT, the therapeutic connection performs two major functions: interpersonal affect regulation and creating a secure environment for inner inquiry and transformative work with emotions. ( Øystein Ottesen Nødtvedt, Per-Einar Binder, Signe Hjelen Stige, Elisabeth Schanche, Jan Reidar Stiegler, & Aslak Hjeltnes. (2019) As counselors, we must maintain a professional demeanor and keep our personal values apart from the counseling session. Rather of arguing with the client or inserting our personal opinions, we collaborate with the client to better understand why they made the decisions I disagree with. I would also consult with a supervisor to seek advice on how to effectively manage the treatment session in order to preserve the client's trust .. Role of Empathy Because there are no procedures, the role of empathy is a crucial component of person- centered treatment. It is built on empathy, positive regard, and honesty. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines empathy (2019) as the activity of understanding, knowing and sensitive to and experiencing in an Objective Explicit way feelings, thoughts and experiences from one's past and present without the sentiments, ideas and experience being completely conveyed. By expressing empathy, the therapist may balance his client. When the therapist demonstrates empathy, it encourages the client to become more self-assured. Empathy, according to Rogers (1957), is the ability to perceive the client's private world as if it were your own, yet without ever losing the "as if" characteristic. According to Rogers' concept of empathy, the therapist can be a part of the client's reality while yet questioning specific aspects if necessary. As a therapist, this is a delicate balance to maintain with the client, constantly remembering that the client always comes first. Unconditional Positive Regard The greatest approach to describe positive unconditional consideration is to offer unconditional love and support to yourself or someone. Whatever occurs or what decisions someone is making will support you; it doesn't affect your views. Unconditionally the therapist considers the client, no matter what the client says or does, positively in the therapeutic setting. accepted. This is vital to the therapeutic atmosphere as a client will continue to improve the resolution of difficulties in their lives once he has a feeling of love and support. Some of the techniques a consultant might employ are to ask customers about the way they think about current activities. Why did they decide the behavioral causes? How did their choice influence others in their life, as a therapist, rather than the sentiments of my client? (Wilkins 2000) `The essential behavior of the person-centered counselor towards its client is provided unconditional positive respect. The counselor, who maintains this attitude, loves her client's humanity and cannot be identified by certain client behaviour. This mentality expresses itself in the consistency and lasting affection of the counselor towards her customer. ' (p.24). Person-Centered Therapy Qualities Empathy, unconditional positive regard, and sincerity are aspects of person-centered treatment that are emphasized throughout the American Counseling Association code of ethics. A.4.b. Ethically, the counselor must keep their personal values, emotions, and actions out of the treatment sessions. When meeting with the client, the counselor maintains an open mind. This is especially essential when the client does not agree with the client's claims. Empathy is a trait that may be found in the code of ethics C.6.d, which specifies that counselors would not exploit people in their professional interactions. When a therapist uses empathy with a client, the therapist pretends to be the client in order to experience the emotions and experiences that the client is experiencing. The therapist does not abuse the client's feelings when engaging with them. The last attribute, unconditional favorable esteem, is mentioned in the code of ethics. A.2.c Sensitivity to developmental and cultural variety. The counselor expresses unconditional positive respect to the client by utilizing clear, simple language; the therapist embraces the client regardless of differences.
