Hi Angela, Along with you and I, a number of us were drawn in by the article, The Myth of the Teen Brain. This article sheds light on how important it is for researchers to consider the entire picture and not just one aspect. What I mean by this is the age-old debate of nature vs. nature. Within this article, the author presents precise data that culture is highly relative to cognitive development, just as nature’s contribution. Continuously leaning on blanket theories to understand one group, we lessen our opportunity to obtain a greater understanding despite the one group's socio-cultural imprinting. I enjoyed your post this week and wish you all the best. God bless you on your doctoral journey! Blessings, Hi Sarah, Your post grabbed my attention as it aligns closely with my proposed research topic. My research focuses on the parent-child interaction and its importance to cognitive development. You are correct; while the parent's educational background plays a minor role, it is not a critical issue. Parent-child interaction is so much more. Yes, it would be great to have schools to encourage parent-child interaction; however, ensuring that it is indeed constructive is imperative. One of the things I've discovered during this research process is that while we expect parents to provide a level of support, they need to be more aware of how to do so. If a parent has never received affirmation, license, or encouragement, they may be uncertain of constructive support. How do we ensure that we are building not only the children but the parent(s) once they leave the school environment? Once again, I enjoyed your post, and you are an asset to the school where you work. I pray for your doctoral journey, and may God bless you in all you do. Blessings.
