My specialization is industrial/ organizational psychology. There are a few schools of thought that could align. There does not appear to be a wrong answer. Therefore, I wanted to choose the best one for my research. Cognitive psychology is the school of thought that seems to align with my subject. Cognitive psychology looks at decision-making and reasoning (Capella, n.d.) My focus in this program is on leadership motivation. Therefore, understanding reasoning is essential to my study. The types of questions I will ask to support my hypothesis are questions related to behavior. This aligns with the cognitive psychology school of thought. An example of a question could be, what motivates a leader to stay resilient in turbulent times? Based upon questions like these, I will construct surveys to help get information to support the answer. I could make the case to align with the Humanistic school of thought. This school values growth and creativity (Capella, n.d.). In addition, there is alignment with the subject matter. Humanistic psychology looks at the subject of goals and experience (Capella, n.d.). However, the distinction is in the methods used. I foresee quantitative methods leveraged for my research. Much of the study is qualitative in the Humanistic school of thought (Capella, n.d.).
