“Republicans Opposed to Trump Grapple with Consolidation”
“The still crowded GOP primary continues to shield the former President (Drucker,
2023).” There are currently eight Republican presidential candidates contending to go against
President Joe Biden in 2024’s Presidential election. Since January, they have been competing in
the GOP primaries and caucuses to rise up as the Republican party’s nominee. The Republican
primary field has failed to consolidate. “Asked by

if there was some way to push
stragglers out of the race or persuade them to pull the plug on their campaigns, Fred Zeidman
was candid: ‘No.’ (Drucker, 2023).” Eric Levine, a Republican donor from New York who is
backing Senator Tim Scott, says that consolidation must happen and thinks Iowa is the place for
it to happen. Levine says during a Republican Jewish Coalition gathering, “I think Iowa is the
place where it has to happen. After Iowa comes in, if you’re not in the top three, get out
(Drucker, 2023).” There is not a formal process to forcing consolidation, but it is believed that it
is possible.
In 2016, Donald Trump thrived in an over crowded primary. Trump’s campaign focused
on domestic issues such as illegal immigration, offshoring of American jobs, the United States'
national debt, and Islamic terrorism. Trump was the first person without government or military
experience to ever be elected president of the United States. Four years later, the Democratic
Party had a prevailing desire to get Trump out of office.
It might be too early for consolidation. The primaries and caucuses do not end until June
of 2024. I might be wrong on this assumption, but that could be plenty of time for some of the
“less popular” candidates to gain more traction. It could also be enough time for the more
popular candidates to show us who they truly are. I would say Ron DeSantis is my most favored

candidate out of the eight, but I also do not understand the importance of trying to force out
Donald Trump. I do not defend the things that happened in the past with Trump, but out of the
top three, DeSantis, Haley and Trump, Haley is at the bottom of my list. I believe Nikki Haley
will say anything to get elected. She is dishonest and has a personal agenda. Ron DeSantis has
always been good in my book. He is principled and much more effective. If DeSantis were to
drop out of the election for whatever nonsense reason, I still would not pick Nikki Haley. I am
interested to see how everything plays out at the end of primaries and caucuses.
