AP Government: Current Event
The current event article must be recent (within the past month) and must relate to one of the topics covered in the
current unit. It must relate to U.S. politics, not another country.

Vetoed - Have been refused approval.

To exercise a veto against
Law of war -International rules set out to dictate what
can and cannot happen in an armed conflict.
3.
Write a defensible claim
(thesis) that
demonstrates
your
point of view
on the subject
of this article.

I believe the U.S must take a neutral stance in this
war and not gear support to any particular side. I
believe aid to Gaza , and support , and military
finances given to the Israeli military shall be seized. I
believe that the enrollment of the U.S in Israel , and
Palestine is further fueling geopolitical tensions in the
region.
4.
Choose
ONE
piece of evidence (quote) from the
article that supports your claim and paste it
below.

“The U.S. vetoed a United Nations Security
Council resolution that would have called for
pauses in the conflict between Israel and
Palestinian Hamas militants to allow
humanitarian aid access to the Gaza Strip”.
5.
Use reasoning to
explain how your evidence
supports your claim
.

This crucial piece of evidence further proves my
point , by demonstrating how the U.S has a direct
biased involvement in the Israel Vs. Hamas war. The
government of the U.S of america vetoed a bill
allowing for relative neutrality , and pauses into the
war. The U.S government is not taking a neutral or
proactive stance , and is instead taking a stance
geared to gain political influence in the region. This is
causing an uptick in “ 1,400 Israeli deaths , and
nearing 6,000 palestinian deaths”. The U.S
governments support of the Israeli military , and care
packages sent into Palestine are highly hypocritical
fueling tensions on both sides , acting as an
instigator. Moreover U.S religious tensions between
the jewish populus and islamic populus have further
fueled internal political conflict in the U.S Overall the
U.S involvement in the Israel Vs Hamas war is not
beneficial to neutrality and peace in the region
and
instead indirectly encourages violence , and the
negligence of law and order.
6.
Connection to the current unit:
How
is this
article connected to a term or concept we have
learned in class
in the current unit
(2-4
sentences)?
2 points
This is relevant to overseas involvement , political
socialization , and diplomacy.
This directly connects
to the U.S government's direct connections overseas
, and how political socialization between
communities in the U.S can often determine the
outcomes of major global political issues. Moreover
my reasoning directly shows how diplomacy is
crucial in maintaining peace in not just America , but
the entire world.
