In the prelude to the main topic of the documentary, it was interesting to hear about Hitler
and how he decided that the Olympics was a great place to start his racist, propaganda-filled,
reign of terror. Additionally, fast-forwarding almost 40 years, it was amazing to see the Israel
olympic team being apart of the games, after all the persecution Jews went through in Germany.
It served as a symbol to the world, that Germany was a changing country.
Moving to the kidnapping of the Israeli athletes. I first wondered why the Palestinian
terrorists wanted so badly to kidnap these athletes, and how people can be so heartless. Seeing all
the pictures and videos that were showed of the actual hostage situation taking place, was very
surreal. What I do not understand is why it was agreed that the hostages would be flown to Cairo,
where they would be even further from safety. One of the wives of the men who were taken
hostage claims that at the time, this decision was made, so that the chaos would be taken out of
Germany, so that the olympics could continue.
Seeing the events unfold at the airport, makes me think that the German government had
not thought clearly enough about how to conduct this operation. That is further proven because
of how the German government announced that all the hostages were all safe, and then retracted
that statement by saying all of them had been killed. I do think that it was insensitive to keep the
games going. Seeing the pictures of the rooms was an horrifying time capsule of the hell that the
hostages went through.
Knowing that the forensic photographs were so graphic, that it moved people to tears, and
it was so horrific, makes me wonder why 20 years later it was deemed okay for these photos to
be shown. I think that these victims should not be remembered by what happened to them. These

families should have some sort of closure, but I think that could have been done without anyone
seeing these photos.
