2.03 Anti-federalists Part One- Federalist quote 1: "All men of sense will agree in the necessity of an energetic executive ... The ingredients which constitute energy in the executive are unity; duration; an adequate provision for its support; and competent powers." Explain quote 1: The article of confederation has several flaws, one of the more noticeable ones was the power held by the federal government over the land. Through this quote, it can be deduced that the power is being more stabilized for the federal government giving it enough to run the land but not too much to interfere with people's rights. The powers are given count amongst enforcement of taxes, changing the constitution through a complex well-stabled process and having an actual military establishment, using it when necessary. Through this, it can be observed that the most significant goal of the federalists was to present to people the weakness of the article of confederation and lay out a more secure environment for the people's rights through the constitution and how it is a positive change, as it made a stable government. Anti-Federalist quote 2: "The objects of jurisdiction..., are so numerous, and the shades of distinction between civil causes are oftentimes so slight, that it is more than probable that the state judicatories would be wholly superseded; for in contests about jurisdiction, the federal court, as the most powerful, would ever prevail." Explain quote 2: There were worries within the Anti-Federalists as they believed that the states would become powerless once the government was given the power that the federalists established through the constitution. This made the Anti-Federalists despite the federalists as they didn't agree to an empowerment of the federal government as it would take over the state government powers. This frustration is reassembled in the quote. Their worries resulted in them
trying to prevent the federalists from having a lot of federal ability to allow the state government to have the upper hand. Part Two Both points are valid with well-established concepts behind them, with both sides thinking about bettering the country, and as times have changed, both perspectives have shown to be equally suitable. However, during that specific time frame, there was a lack of federal power as everything had to be followed concerning the article of confederation. This made me side with the federalists as there was no real power given to what was supposed to be the most powerful, which is observed as no national currency weakened the country. Although the federalists doubted themselves as they would shift the power, the move was necessary to establish a more stable country with the main power instead of creating splits, but also not too powerful, which the federalists made sure to take into account. In conclusion, the anti-federalists had the right to be frightened about the state's power being taken away. Still, the federalists didn't fully take away states' power, but this shift was necessary to create order and a center of power with people to look up to and condemn if something went wrong.
