Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise (French pronunciation: [s%³ p%FÂ7’• t%²•nwaz], literally Saint-Pol along Ternoise; Occident Flemish: Sint-Pols-aan-de-Ternas; Picard: Saint-Po-su-Térnoèse) is a commune in the Pas-de-Calais section in northern France. It is the seat of the canton of Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise. The population of the townspeople is 4,909 (2019). Chronicle The county of Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise, normally referred to equally a Saint-Pol, was primitively a fastness of the Counts of Flanders and was established arsenic a county in the tardily 9th century. When the county passed away of the house of the Flemish counts, it remained dependent to the Reckoning of Flanders as his vassals until 1180. It became case to France, so Artois (1237–1329), then France again until it ceased to subsist as a county and was annexed to France inwards 1702. In 1702 it came below direct prescript of France. In the S Ages, several of the Counts of Saint-Pol were active inwards the Crusades. Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise was the provenience of Martial Joseph Armand Herman (1749-1795), a politico of the Gallic Revolution, and impermanent Gallic S Minister.
