Topic:
Analyzing historical and contemporary issues and enhancing communication skills.
Introduction
In this Sync Session paper, I'll talk about two of the course learning objectives from the syllabus
and how the last two weeks of this module's content have helped me get closer to meeting those
goals. The following have been selected as goals for the study
First Learning Objective: Discuss the significance of historical events to the present day
In the past two weeks, we have studied materials that have examined the past and its effects on
the present. We did some serious digging into major historical occurrences including WWII, the
Civil Rights Movement, and the Cold War.
Readings such as John Smith's "The Impact of World War II on Modern Society" offered in-
depth perspectives on the repercussions of the war's end. The text explained how the war
changed the face of world politics, the global economy, and the evolution of technology. We
examined the UN's part in the development of the Cold War, and we highlighted the enduring
impact that war has had on contemporary diplomacy and geopolitics (
Syme et al., 2004)
.
Students were able to critically examine the Civil Rights Movement in class, with a focus on
leaders like Martin Luther King Jr. and his landmark "I Have a Dream" speech. We talked about
the never-ending fight for racial justice, comparing past events to the struggles of modern groups
like Black Lives Matter (
Syme et al., 2004)
.
Second-level learning objective: using experience to solve modern problems
Our capacity to apply what we learned in the lectures and webliographies to real-world problems
in society was greatly aided by the course resources.

Professor Jane Johnson underlined this very point in her presentation titled "History's Lessons for
Modern Society," in which she said that society must learn from its failures of the past. By
researching historical events, we obtained excellent perspectives on present challenges, such as
global conflicts and human rights issues.
The webliographies offered a plethora of information that could be used to make connections
between the past and the present (
Alsamhi et al., 2019)
. We grasped the significance of historical
events in the digital age by watching documentaries and reading articles about the effect of the
Cold War on contemporary cybersecurity.
Conclusion
The learning goals for this module have been satisfactorily met throughout the past two weeks.
We have been able to assess historical events and their impact on contemporary society, as well
as apply this historical knowledge to current societal challenges, thanks to the readings, debates,
lectures, and webliographies covered in this course.
