Internet Activity 3 Miranda Sutpin POSC111 For each of the two parties you've chosen, answer all of the following questions: 1. What is the name of party? The Libertarian Party 2. How did the party get started? They were founded in 1971 with the belief that Americans should be able to live a unique and responsible life not controlled by the government. 3. What is the basic philosophy of this party? What does it stand for? Libertarians believe that there should be no interference with their personal, business or family choices by government. But rather be free as long as no harm is caused amongst the people. Peace and honesty are important to a Libertarian as well. 4. What are three current political issues of importance to this party? Give specific, well- developed examples. The War on Drugs: Libertarians would like to see an end to the war on drugs because it is unfair to both citizens and the police because they should be focused on violent individuals rather than controlling what a person can or cannot put in their bodies (marijuana, saturated fats, alcohol, tobacco, etc.). They see this as a pro-liberty approach about the fact that the war on drugs is immoral, ineffective and unfair. HealthCare: Libertarians believe that the health care would become better if the government was not in control. Since the government controls everything related to healthcare, the quality of care is lacking due to the limited options and decrease in pay for the providers. Immigration: Peace and nonviolent individuals should be allowed to travel and even move to start a new life. The people who come to the US are productive and are here for freedom. Most often they are fleeing poverty or violence and if freedom and safety screams the United States, then we should allow them to migrate to our country. 5. Does this party hold regular conventions? Not regular conventions but they have had about one a year. 6. Did this party run a candidate for president in the most recent presidential election? Who was it? Jo Jorgensen 7. Is there a chapter of this party in your local community? If not, is there one for your state?
Internet Activity 3 Miranda Sutpin POSC111 There is not one in my local community but there is one for my state and it is the Libertarian Party of Missouri. 8. Do you think that minor parties such as these have any influence in American politics? If so what is it? Yes, these minor parties have influence in politics because they have their own unique beliefs that will make the voters really think and ponder on their beliefs to who they want to vote for. 9. Would you consider voting for this party or joining it? Explain your reasoning? Yes, I would! The have a freedom view and that we should be able to make choices for ourselves without the government at our throats with different taxes and laws that just embarrass us all anyways. The government runs a lot of what we already do and I feel like we should be able to freely make decisions without the government box around us. There are some views that I do not agree with though and that would be that we welcome more immigrants and that is because of the fact that our populations is ever growing in our country and others but we accept more people. We may get fooled and accept a terrorist and not know until something happens. But all in all I do favor more of a Libertarians view on the political matter. 10. What is the name of party? Alliance Party 11. How did the party get started? 12 different independent political parties joined together to make the Alliance Party. They were all against the infamous tow-party system. 12. What is the basic philosophy of this party? What does it stand for? Unity, and therefore Community Responsibility Accountability Fairness Integrity Civility Since they are a third-party, the Alliance Party wants to be a new choice for Americans who want a fair government interaction. Trust is also very important.

Income Inequality: There is not a social safety net for the people who really need it and the Alliance Party has some suggestions on how to improve this matter. First, making the tax code simple and fair. Meaning, they would like to see all tax preferences be abolished except for incentives towards future savings and investments. Second, providing a universal income and redo how the Earned Income Tax Credit is distributed. Instead of once a year, they should do bi-weekly payments. Healthcare: With over 50% of personal bankruptcies caused by medical bills, you can understand why change would be important now days. Some solutions the Alliance Party thinks that will help are: Universal access to primary, psychiatric, emergency and all stages of having a child care and covering anything related to COVID. Having better care for the elderly is important as well. Gun Violence: With over 100 lives lost daily to gun violence, it is time for some changes in how we handle these situations. Reducing the ease of access to buying guns by making the process more personal and informative is a possible solution. Also restricting the amount of weapons an individual can have on them or in their possession. But most importantly, the improvement of mental health requirements that one must meet in order to purchase any weapon. 14. Does this party hold regular conventions? The offer a podcast, news and youtube channel. 15. Did this party run a candidate for president in the most recent presidential election? Who was it? Nobody ran in the presidency but there were other positions filled by members of this party. A city Councilman, sheriff, state house and treasurer and also superintendent of education. 16. Is there a chapter of this party in your local community? If not, is there one for your state? Yes there is one in Columbia, Mo. 17. Do you think that minor parties such as these have any influence in American politics? If so what is it? Yes, just like any other third party candidate they are sure to raise some questions in their beliefs and how they would change different aspects of our lives involved with the government. 18. Would you consider voting for this party or joining it? Explain your reasoning?
