Government
Please explain the difference between dual federalism and cooperative
federalism. Which type of federalism do you think the framers of the Constitution
supported?
From 1789 to 1937, dual federalism was practiced in America where the federal and
state governments shared the most important governmental powers. It involved the
strict separation of powers and responsibilities between the federal and state
governments. Cooperative federalism, on the other hand, is a system where the federal
and state governments work in collaboration to address complex issues, with less
emphasis on strict division of authority. The Federal government encourages states and
localities to pursue nationally defined goals through the use of grants-in-aid. I believe
that the framers supported Dual Federalism, in the section labeled the "Power of State
Government" chapter 3 states that the framers maintained the importance of state
involvement in the federal system through the Tenth Amendment of the Constitution.
