1 Interference and Diffraction 1.1 Diffraction Grating Predictions 1 we think the wavelength will increase. We expect to see a less condensed beam. Results & Reflections 2 2a. 2b. Predictions 3 Dots will be closer together, and the dots will be less focused. We expect to see more dots. Results & Reflections 4 4. 1.2 Single Slit Diffraction Predictions 5 The single slit will produce a splatter of light. When the slit is bigger, the light splatters will be more concentrated and in a smaller area. Results & Reflections 6 6a. 6b. 1.3 Single Hair Diffraction Predictions 7 .000001 m width of hair. The light will appear in dashes. Ethan thinks it will be the same as the slit. Results & Reflections 8 8a. 8b. 1.4 Double Slit Interference Predictions 9 When the slit separation decreases, the size of the dots are going to increase. Results & Reflections 8
8. 2 Simulation of DNA Diffraction Predictions 11 some spots will be very bright because of the light waves combining, and some will become softer. The pattern will feel more randomized. Results & Reflections 12 12a. 12b. Predictions 13 There will be a change in brightness along the slant. The spacing between the spots will get farther away as it moves away from the center. Single slit is brightness double slit is spacing. Results & Reflections 14 14a. 14b. Predictions 15 We'll get some vertical lines and some diagonal lines. Maybe a horizonal one too. Results & Reflections 16 16a. 16b. Predictions 17 We think that the double helix will create two "x" patterns. Depending on the offset, the "x"'s will become thinner or thicker. Results & Reflections 18, 19, & 20 18. 19. 20a. 20b. Conclusion
