Memo
To:
SJC ITS Departments Directors and Supervisors
From:
Christina Pappillion, HR Specialist, and Interpersonal Ethics
Date:
October 5, 2022
Subject:
Anti-bullying Policy Reminder
This memorandum is written in response to the bullying incident that occurred on Monday, Oct 3,
2022, between two individuals during an advisory committee meeting that demonstrated improper use
of a cell phone during the company meeting. This incident was unacceptable and will be dealt with
appropriately by the Human Resources Department and may result in immediate termination from the
company. This is a reminder of our zero-tolerance policy for bullying or any other form of bullying by
any employee within the company, including all employees, such as part-time and full-time employees,
that San Jacinto College District employs. Workplace bullying is the intentional, health-harming
mistreatment of one or more people by one. This includes unacceptable behavior:
Threatening or intimidation
Work interference or sabotage that prevents works from getting completed
Verbal abuse
We are currently working on proactive measures to be sure each employee is aware of the bullying
policy. For example, we will push out a consent form that every employee must sign; they will have
to understand this policy and abide by the bullying policy within the San Jacinto college district.
Also, we will provide various employee anti-bullying education and training sessions, which will
be mandatory, including Workplace harassment training to ensure all employees are aware of
companies’ policies.
Here are the four relevant points that our organization training program will
include addressing any adverse effects of bullying in the workplace.
Be aware of bullying practices and know all employees’ rights and responsibilities.
Introduce defensive silence tips that can be practiced and promote mediator and workplace
friendship/ positive relationships as co-workers
Implement conflict resolution techniques
Innovation diversity and zero-tolerance
We will discuss more details about this anti-bullying policy in our next weekly team meeting.
Sincerely,
Christina Pappillion
