Session 1 Paper
Everybody has a worldview. Worldviews change as life experience changes. In the video What's in a worldview, Shaffer Parker states, “We are all limited in our comprehension of the world around us.” (Colorado Christian University, 2021, 3:20) We only know what we have experienced. As we experience more and learn more, our worldview may change.
Who is God? God is our creator. God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. In Understanding the Times, Trinitarian monotheism refers to only one God, revealed in 3 different ways. (Myers & Noebel, 2015) God came to us in the form of Jesus. He died on the cross for us and rose again. He is the Holy Spirit that lives inside of all of us. God is everywhere. “Christians see evidence of God everywhere; history, theology, philosophy, science, mathematics, and logic all point to the existence of a Creator.”(Myers & Noebel, 2015, p. 191)
What is the love of wisdom? We all have a physical and a mental being. Myers & Noebel explain this as dualism, believing reality is made up of 2 substances. (Myers & Noebel, 2015, p. 206) We have our physical bodies that move and carry on our day-to-day activities. We also have
our mental being, our thoughts and beliefs. In Understanding the times, Eccles is quoted saying, “the brain is in the material world and the mind is in the ‘world of subjective experience.’”(Myers & Noebel, 2015, p. 226) What is the good life? The good life is a life that has pleased God. Living the good life is following God’s laws. “Ethicists are not merely in search of a life that feels good, but in search of ‘the good life’ – a life that actually is good.” (Myers & Noebel, 2015, p. 21) When living the way God has commanded, God in turn gives us blessings, grace, mercy. We end up living a life that also feels good.

What does the natural world tell us about creation? We are created by God. We are made in His image. Not only were we created by God, but everything around us was created by God. So many things are so complicated, especially ours, yet they work how they are supposed to. Myers & Noebel explain best by saying, “Moreover, in our experience, everything that begins to exist has a cause. Since a causal chain cannot be infinitely long, there must have been a first cause. We call this uncaused cause God.” (Myers & Noebel, 2015, p. 191) We don’t walk around saying things that just pop up out of nowhere. We can say how they became to be.
What makes a human being a person? Fulfilling the call God has for us in our lives makes human beings people. It’s more than just feelings. It’s your beliefs, morals, and your purpose in life. We know we are all sinners. We know that Christ is our Savior. “Understanding human beings as possessing both bodies and souls, even though we are sinful, imperfect, and in need of a Savior, far outweighs expecting humans, as much of contemporary psychologists argue, to be guilt free and in control of their behavior.”(Myers & Noebel, 2015, p. 24) How should we live in a community? We should live in a Godly fashion, with God as our
Heavenly Father. God made Adam and Eve to reproduce to populate humanity. The father is always to be the head of the household. However, times have changed a lot since then. I don’t believe God was saying men should be in complete control either. They are to lead the family, not control the family. In Understanding the times it is said, “At its most basic level, society flourishes when it is built upon strong families composed of a father, mother, and children.”(Myers & Noebel, 2015, p. 23) What constitutes a just law? Myers and Noebel said, “To keep society from breaking down, then, we must have rules and a means of making people obey them.” (Myers & Noebel, 2015, p. 21) Laws that are in line with God’s laws, that are fair, and justice that is fair is a hard

feat to accomplish. It sounds easy, but there are so many sins, such as greed, idolatry, jealousy, that lead to corruption and injustice. Many innocent people have been punished and, on the other hand, many guilty people have gone unpunished. God, however, is the ultimate judge.
In whom should power rest? Ultimately, power rests in God. As He has multiple political titles in the Bible. (Myers & Noebel, 2015) But since he is not here in the flesh to rule, we are given governments. Just as with laws, there is so much sin around us, it is near impossible to have a government that is completely fair. God gave us all rights. Even in the biblical times there
were governments. God put specific people in charge to carry out his laws. How should a society be productive? Everything we have is actually owned by God. We are just the stewards. We are to manage our land, our money, and anything else God has given us in a way that glorifies Him. We are to take responsibility for the possessions He blesses to us. Understanding the times talks about, “to glorify God is nobler than coercive government policies
that destroy individual responsibility and incentives to work.” (Myers & Noebel, 2015, p. 24)
How can the past help future human flourishing? “if history is told inaccurately it might lead people to make bad decisions—which in turn could hinder human flourishing.” (Myers & Noebel, 2015, p. 22) We can find several examples throughout history that have been repeated with the same outcome. History will repeat itself. As a Christian, we have the owner’s manual, the best how-to guide in history, the Bible. The Bible is full of stories that say how we are and how we are not to act. All of these categories explain my Christian worldview as of today. However, they are my worldviews, because of the experience I have gained and the knowledge of God. This was not always my worldview. If I grew up in another country, my worldview would most likely be different. If I were to live in a different state, my worldview could be different. Even if I lived in

the same town as now, but grew up with a different family, my worldview could be different. I know my worldview has changed from the time I was young until now. And it could possibly change again, but I have a firm foundation in God, and it is doubtful it will change.
