2 Outline The Mental Health Crisis in the United States and, frankly, worldwide has been at the forefront of discussion given the high rates of suicides and clinical admissions for evaluations. Globally, suicide has been recognized as a severe public health concern associated with significant disability, psychosocial impairment, and medical illness (Lew et al., 2019). These admissions do not have age, sex, marital status, financial status, and sexual orientation prejudices. We see this crisis impact all walks of life, making it more detrimental to our society. My topic will focus on suicide in children and teens, the military, and adults. Suicide ranks consistently in the 10 th and 11 th range, leading cause of death each year, and is double compared to homicides. As a society, we need to educate ourselves about recognizing the signs and symptoms of suicide to prevent this. Suicides in Children and Teens Suicides in Military Suicides in Adults The risk of suicide in children and teens is high and is the second leading cause of death between the ages of ten and twenty-four (Goldsmith, 2017). The highest rate of suicide is among the middle-aged group of 45-64 years of age. Straightforward use of these standards will provide more explicit, more accurate, more profound, and more relevant. My ultimate goal is to provide information so that readers can understand my point of view with the facts I have provided. I will be accurate, clear and use logic and precision to deliver the information. When choosing this topic, I had many assumptions going in, like what can cause someone to commit suicide, do anti-depressants work, how long does this last, is it curable? From an early age, I was taught to handle any issue in the house; there was no need to see a doctor, and seeing a therapist was a waste of time. However, as an adult who suffers from mental health issues, my assumptions have flip-flopped. The more we can be asking questions and not

4 be afraid to ask that kind of specific question when we have a reason, the more we can prevent suicide (Penrod,2019). With added research, I look forward to critically thinking about this topic freely. Conclusion All in all, mental health is a huge issue worldwide. From as early as ten up to our elderly sector, mental health plays a significant role in suicides. As a society, if we can better educate ourselves regarding recognizing signs and symptoms of suicide, we can better utilize resources to prevent it.
