1.

refer?
The branch of ethics that examines various kinds of business activities and asks, “Is this business conduct ethically right or wrong?”.

What are the five steps in the ethical decision-making framework?
From “A Framework for Thinking Ethically,” Markkula Center for Applied Ethics, Santa Clara University (2009).
a.
Is it an ethical issue?
Identifying ethical issues. Being aware of how you and others
approach decisions of what is right. It is important to recognize that many of our
decisions have an ethical component. If it feels difficult making the decision on your
own, get others involved and use their collective knowledge and experience to make
a more considered decision.
b.
Get the facts. What do you know or what don’t you know? Who are the people
affected by your decision? What evidence can help with your decisions? Do your
facts come from good and reliable sources or are they mostly from unconfirmed
internet postings, misinformation, fake news, personal biases? What are your
options?
c.
Evaluate alternative actions.
Multiple approaches can help us take advantage of the
strengths and balance out the weaknesses of these well-respected approaches. i. Utilitarian approach. Which action results in the most good and least harm?
ii
. Rights-based approach. Which action respects the rights of everyone involved?
iii.
Fairness or justice approach.
Which action treats people fairly?
iv
. Common good approach. Which action contributes most to the quality of life of the people affected?
v.
Virtue approach. Which action embodies the character strengths you value?
d.
Test your decision.
How does it affect the people involved? Examine your approach
whether you can share it or not. If not, rethink your decision before you take action.
e.
Just do it
—
but what did you learn? Once you’ve made the decision, implement it.
What can you learn from this process? After we have acted it out, it can be essential
to pause and reflect so that we can learn from our experiences for the future. 3.
