1. Describe a personal experience in which you experienced a significant rift in the family—one that might have been avoided by using some of the resilience tools and processes identified by Walsh. What do you wish you had known and understood, and what effect do you believe it likely would have had in your circumstances? You need not reveal sensitive information; just address the lessons you have leaned as a result of your study of this topic. My mom demonstrates remarkable resilience in the face of significant challenges. In the past my mom has suffered from hyperthyroidism that has caused a lot of change that she struggled with. She had consulted with our doctor and looked into everything she could find to try and find ways to help her when times get too hard for her. For a while she decided to not worry about it much because she thought that her overthinking was affecting how she was feeling. Through all of her struggles, she found the support and strength in those around her, mainly her family. A few years ago, she was finally able to find the answers she was looking for. It has been amazing to me to watch her grow through her struggle and make it a strength and how she relied on those around her to help distract and encourage her. I know that her faith in our Father in Heaven and his plan for her family always overpowers the fears and doubts. Over the years I’ve seen how she was able to find ways to grow spiritually through scripture study and constant prayer. When one feels too hopeless and burdened down there is always someone there to help carry their load and lift them up. 2. Do you see a family resilience strategy that Walsh seems to have overlooked? What is it and how can it be used? I think that a family resilience strategy that is very important is to have Christ as a core center of the family. Having the gospel and the spirit present to bond the family together can help make the family so much stronger and resilient. I have seen this within my own family. As we come together through Christ, we can strengthen one another and lift each other up in times of trial.
