Discussion Thread: Christian Stewardship in Higher Education My view is that Christians should be responsible with finances that they have been given or that they are in charge of at work. Being responsible would look like applying biblical principles, scripture that relates to finances, as well as praying for wisdom and guidance in financial situations to be given to you from the Lord. The Bible says many things regarding financial planning, and as Christians, it should be important should try our best to abide by these things. For example, Proverbs 21:20 says, “The wise store up choice food and olive oil, but fools gulp theirs down” (Bible Gateway). While this does not directly talk about money, it talks about saving up for days when you may run into problems. This is how Christians should handle their own money, and their institution's money as well. It also important to not get too worried or stressed about finances because as long as you are doing your part and seeking God's guidance, God will help provide for your every need in his own time. As I reflect on what I learned throughout this course, the budget spreadsheet assignment comes to mind as I had to learn so much during that assignment as it was unlike any assignment that I had done before. I learned more than just about my chosen college's financial health but about higher education finances in general. Since this assignment was due when I first started my first official year of teaching and was taking three graduate courses, I was extremely overwhelmed. After completing it, I felt so happy that it was finished and I felt that I actually learned something very useful. I learned a lot of government financing higher education as well, how it works and how much of spending goes into it. Now that I know this, I am more inclined to look for news about it and see updates in their spending in higher education, looking for their support. Learning about the ethics of higher education financing was important as well, helping me to learn the ethical ways and how things should be done. Overall, I learned so much about higher education in general but obviously more specifically about economics and finances in higher education. Going through this course made me more comfortable about knowing how college finances work, how they are funded, the different types of institutions and how they are funded, and so much more. I am thankful for all this course has taught me. Reference: BibleGateway.com: A searchable online Bible in over 150 versions and 50 languages.
