Discussion Thread: Perceptions on Professionalism
The field of education is constantly changing so it is imperative that professionals in
education stay up to date on what is happening in the field, or areas that affect the field of education. The changes in laws and technology greatly affect education, for example, how things are taught or what needs to be included in the curriculum. Even certain trends can greatly affect how things are taught or help educators discover new ways that students learn. As the world is always changing it is important that educators stay up to date to best educate their students and prepare
them for their next steps.
After this course, I plan on growing professionally by partaking in professional development opportunities that are provided through my school district. I also plan on taking more courses after completing this one that help me enhance my skills and knowledge about the education field. I am also subscribed to a few education magazines and websites that keep me up to date on current issues and developments. Another way that I am planning on growing professionally is by growing in my relationship with the Lord. As I draw closer to Him, I strive to be more
and more like Jesus and live like Him. Jesus was a perfect teacher, and striving to be
like Him can only make me more professional and help me be the role model I need to be for my students and those around me as stated by Dr. Goodwin in the Professionalism video. As a professional I want others to see Christ in me, all of those around me. To do this, I need to control my reactions and practice the fruit of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
As the video points out, someone is always watching, even outside
of school hours and on online platforms so it is important to reflect Christ and be professional through all that I do.
