Response: Articles of Faith: 11-12 are a little different than the rest. They state how we believe in religious freedom, and all
should be able to worship how they please, but we also believe in being subject to the laws and leaders in our societies so that we maintain that freedom. I think that this is a topic that often gets overlooked when discussing our
Faith. It has been outlined for us that we have been gifted the freedom to have the privilege to worship our savior and to have all the freedoms that we have. In D&C 134:5 it tells us how since we have been given our religious freedom we are required to uphold the laws of the land in which we reside. Members of the church have been tasked with being good citizens and representing the Lord in all our communities and following the laws helps to ensure that we can maintain our religious freedom. The Lord has given us a government to help protect that freedom
but we must ensure that our agency thrives as well as a collective. Part of doing that is laid out for us in D&C 98:10; we should seek to be good, honest, and wise people. With that in mind we should be seeking to have multitudes of people who share these attributes in our communities, this is how the Lord desires us to build up our society so that we may thrive and protect our freedoms while not bring corruption due to unchecked freedom. We have been told that if we do not strive for this that evil will rise in our society.
Word Count: 270 4. Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World
There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences
of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again.
Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then choose your own:
abortion
abuse/bullying
addiction
depression
divorce
domestic violence
energy/environmental issues
violence
gambling
genocide
homosexuality
international terrorism
materialism
natural disasters
pornography
unemployment
poverty
racial strife/hatred
religious intolerance/persecution
threats to religious liberty
same-sex marriage
suicide
Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about
the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know.
Write a response in at least 300-450 words
and list your word count at the end of your response.
5.
The world problem/issue I chose this week is:
Threats to religious libertyResponse.
Response: This week, it would be wise to think about our freedom to select our religious convictions. We know that it is a right to believe in and practice the religion that we choose thanks to Articles of Faith 11 and 12. God gave the majority of the globe's governments and laws that ought to uphold this right for this reason. But, apostasy has caused the loss of
the laws and values that the Lord taught Adam from the start. Yet as of right now, we have the Church of Jesus Christ, which He Himself leads, and independent governments, both of which uphold this right. God granted us the ability to exercise our free will, which allows us to make personal decisions about what is good and bad, pure and impure, and what is right and wrong. Considering the potential effects that any of us could have. As members, we are
aware that the Holy Spirit is with us to lead us, yet there is always a potential that we could get turned around and choose a different route. The spiritual option is to return with our Jesus and His Church in order to be rescued spiritually, and we must never forget that one of the purposes for why we are here is to be tested on earth. If not, go Satan and enter his dominion devoid of a physical body. A clear example of this is the freedom that now exists in this world. On the other hand, a flourishing world depends on people abiding by the law and the norms. One of the tenets of the Church of Jesus Christ is order. As a result, the world's ruling institutions or governments ought to adopt it. Humanity must respect and honor this law that guarantees religious freedom. It is disheartening to learn that there are still nations like China or the Middle East where people are denied the freedom to practice other religions. Nonetheless, there is great hope since the Scriptures promise that the Gospel will be spread to every nation on earth bythe time of Christ's Second Coming. The freedom attained during those times should, in my opinion, be appreciated, respected, and above all, we should be very mindful of the effects it may have on our lives. I'm hoping that the majority of people would adhere to the right morals and the Gospel. Word Count:
