PHL 218 Humans rights through Gender Equity Olivia Holland Part One: Background Basic human actions create an understanding of Morals. The ethical framework used for this course is based on the universal ethical framework, Utilitarianism, Virtue, deontology, rights-based Care based ethics. Each framework is based off of the size of community. Large background of each group and also the goals and objectives of each group and heir communities. These frameworks are related to Human rights because of the outcome each framework will represent. For example, Utilitarianism is bided off of the morals rights that generates the best outcome for the largest number for people. The best way to describe that the frameworks affect the human action is to use the example of global warming and the Paris agreement. The Paris agreement signifies what a large number of people can do to stop the dangerous affects to global warming and the effect influences a large number of people Morals and values can influence the framework by applying whether or not the treaty is morally ethical. The difference between professional and global ethics are that the effects of the globe Vs an impact in a small society or community. An example of a global ethic would be the global warming dilemma and the use of technology on the medical field, which all have an impact on the nation. There are many different ethical Ideologies within the world, Western, Eastern Indigenous tribal. Each has a high influence on how Human respond to ethics. Cultures create ethical framework that is perfect for their own morals and ethics that meet the needs of their
ideology. Western is the influence from the European and the Mediterranean communities which focus on the truth and justice for good and evil. Evil Ideology is based off of perception they honoring culture family and ancestors. Indigenous tribal is based off of Land and tribal. They are dedicated to caring for the environment and people in their tribe. Each Ideology are different because their framework affects the larger communities that share the same morals. An ethical frame work that is used with my topic is to create an understanding of what the objective is what am I trying to change, each ethical framework has an impact on the morals of each. The purpose is to have a clear guide to those ethical frameworks. Part Two: Analyze Your Chosen Topic My choice topics in ethical issues to address is Social Justice and Human rights with the theme in Gender equity. As a woman coming from a strong Hispanic background, I have found this topic to be interesting. I was always taught that men hold a specific standard in the work field, Home and sports. Over the last century the masculine role has dominated the community. Whether is it what jobs are specific to the gender to even what we teach our children in school, we have come so far in providing knowledge of girls in stem to even branching out our focus of sports that men and woman can accomplish. Which brings me to my Specific ethical issue I am addressing within the theme “the growing issue of biological trans men Vs women in sports”. As I become more excited with this theme, I have decided to challenge this against my own biases. The ethical dilemma I am trying to address may be several. Because men are biologically formed and fitted to dominate certain sports compared to woman. Is it fair to allow biological men to compete in woman dominate sports, even though they plan on having a gender change?
The growing dilemma of men Vs women within the trans community has spread widely. We have seen biological masculinity make it course through transgender and sports. Based on my focus/topic I would like to focus on two frameworks. Rights based, what is best for everyone’s rights and also focus on Utilitarianism, what generates the best outcome for the largest number of people. The benefit of using an ethical framework would help me navigate my objective with this project. I am hopeful to show my research and use these frameworks to my advantage. The use of diversity is highly important with this topic. We are working with a very complex situation that has created dilemma in many diverse groups. Using Diverse ethical perspectives can help me navigate the impact the topic may have on different organizations, diverse groups and communities. Could my ethical topic ultimately change how Olympic sports are played and categorized. Other perspectives specifically diverse, could be that many may use transgender to compete in a sport, without truly being part of the LGBTQ community. These diverse results could alter sports altogether. Part Three: Reflect March 17 th 2022, Lia Thomas became the first trans woman to win the 500 Meter swimming freestyle race in Olympic history. Over the course of her victory, she has been the target of much controversy in the trans, feminism and human rights. This has sparked into the debate of whether or not the trans community are equal to the rights of its people without the knowledge of their sex. This was the beginning of a many questionable changes that have affected society. We have seen the changes in pronouns and how to identify genders in general. For many this has been a hard adjustment but also to many this was absolute must in society.

The basic framework that I am looking at is many that can relate to the specific theme that I have chosen for this paper. I have chosen then the ethical framework appropriate for this paper is going to be Utilitarianism and care-based framework. Utilitarianism is the what is the best thing for everybody in whole society that is morally right. For example, based on our morals and what is right, is allowing trans men to compete in sports morally right and can it affect large numbers of people. The other form of framework is care based which reflects of the relationships that we form with others. This change in the LGBTQ community could also alter the relationships with many families who may or may not think this is morally right. The ethical framework was also based on the historical decision making. Analyzing the global effect on the issue helps is to also look through the evidence and also the perspective of other. Based on my theme “Social Justice: the growing issue of biological trans men Vs women in sports”. Ethical decision making can have an impact on my topic by also helping analyze the situation. Step by step we are able to take a problem that is affecting a large number of people. We first can Identify the issue: can we allow trans to compete in a female dominated sport. Ge the facts: what are the data and numbers of this issue. Evaluate alternative actions: what can we do differently in this issue, how can we make everyone happy. Chose an option of an action and test it: based of finding alternative actions can we put it to the test. What is your decision and how can we reflect on the outcome. Ethical decision making can also help us understand the situation and the people behind it. This gives us the option to research and to come with answers that please the larger number of people.
Based on my own morals and values the cultural influences weigh heavily on this ethical issue. I have also been influenced by the LGBTQ community and became overall interested because of the personal influences. I come from a cultured background. I have close family friends who are part of the LGBTIQQ community this heavily helped influence the understand of my ethical issue. Cultural influences help shape morals and values by the influences that they are familiar with. Many cultures don’t believe in a sex change or even same sex marriages, while many also discriminate against these understanding. Some of these beliefs can come from as early as Jean Piaget’s theory. Which he explains the three levels of moral development. pre- conventional stage acceptance of social conventions, the conventional stage autofocusses of the morality and expectations and post-conventional stage coming up with general moral principles. This proves that from the beginning of development we are made to accept the morality of situation. In terms may not affect how we adjust to many. (National Library of Medicine 2021, Universality and cultural Diversity in Moral reasoning and judgement ) Individual biases could help impact my theme by simply taking away the biases that come with trans community in general. According to independent magazine Lia Thomas swimming medalist has been receiving back lash from feminist groups and also local LGBTQ community. Because of the biases and perception of the community. (Independent,2022) In my own words I believe that cultural influences have no regard as to why I chose this specific topic. This was a general ethical issue that I can see has affected many in society. However, I believe that cultural influences may alter this ethical issue because of the many
biases it has. A cultural influence may affect the ethical decision because of the many cultures that also may affect the outcome.
