Case Study: Ethical Issues in AI Student Name Ethics, PHI220 Professor Name Month Date Year 1
Artificial Intelligence Case Study Assignment Template Describe the most relevant facts of the case study—who, what, where, when, and why. Recap the facts of the case study in your own words, using complete sentences. As described in the case study analysis, Regency Health Center set up in the United States has been involving Artificial Intelligence to enable them to scrutinize and process endless patient and medical documentation. The concerns raised from information technology's personnel –Chris Pederson, about potential loopholes in these procedures, the facility management has been reluctant to deal with these challenges. These security loopholes allowed hackers the means for infringement in the system and steal enormous amounts of medical and patient information during the past six months' timeframes. The infraction is currently under inquiry by law enforcement, which expanded ethical apprehensions about accountability and clarity regarding certain applications in using A.I. in the health industry. Largely because patients in facilities like R.H.C. have minuscule command over their medical information, exponentially healthcare facilities value profits generated by these A.I. systems, such as easy access to patient history, diagnosis, and treatment. Explain the two most important ethical issues raised by the facts of the case study, providing a rationale for your choices. 1. responsibility for data security accountability in safeguarding patient info in healthcare facilities is essential for the institution to build trust in these AI approaches in handling patients' data. According to the case analysis, it is evident that RHC failed to enact effective measures to handle known exposures despite caution from the technology officer, which is unethical. It boosts concerns that healthcare facilities must commit to responsible data preservation. This is principally due to the data breach resulting in the client's medical information being misappropriated, circulating information to hackers, causing probable legal action. Highlighting the unfavorable ramifications of inadequate security in protecting medical information 2
2. Transparency issues with patient management and data utilization the patients reported needing more information on how RHC stores and applies its data. Also, patients need more control of their data it depicts RHC's lack of candor about patient rights and data utilization while involving artificial intelligence. Ethically immoral of the healthcare facility to deny patients their autonomy and privacy of their medical data. Patients visiting any establishment has the right to know how their information is used. Describe the ethical idea or theory that aligns most closely with your chosen issues, providing a rationale for your response. Improve Data Security with Strategic Risk Management This case study analyzes the setbacks of the healthcare facility in dealing with safeguarding patient information Determine two ethically sound solutions to the case study problems, providing a rationale for your choices. 1. A possible solution to these problems is that the organizations strengthen data security through the implementation of measures such as the assessment of vulnerabilities and testing for conceivable loopholes, training of the medical staff on cybersecurity threats, encryption of data and access controls as well as using systems that notify in case there is an attempt to breach data. 2. Put in patient-controlled, centralized data governance framework The solution to challenges faced by health organization is ensure centralized data governance This is possible via access enhancement and commission of a patient healthcare portal, 3
