Hello,
At my previous job as a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) I would consider myself a
follower. My supervisor would create treatment plans for those with autism which would be
carried out by me. My usual clients would be on the younger side, but treatment can go to a lot
older. I believe the maximum age for the organization I worked for was twenty five. It was
important for me to be a great follower because every case is always different. Every week I
would meet with my supervisor about the case to go over the operational planning of my client’s
progression. In one of my cases, one of the parents of the child was always passive aggressive
toward me every session. Within a few days I figured out that the parents weren’t on the same
page when it came to applied behavior analysis. My supervisor had told me to stick with it and
that she would talk with them later in the week. As a follower, I had to just focus on the child’s
development while sitting alongside the parent that didn’t agree with anything I was doing. I felt
that I was a follower because even though I felt uncomfortable, I still had to follow the treatment
plan as best as I could.
