The speaker in the video on gestation on the Liberty University video page suggested conception
is not measurable and is controversial. He broke down the gestation period down from three
trimesters into weeks and had reasonable justification for doing so. He suggested that conception
starts somewhere around two weeks after the end of the last menstrual cycle. He described
several milestones within the gestation period, defining when a baby in the womb is in danger of
complications both pre-term and post-term.
There are articles I have read that describe the scientifically observed moment of conception
as giving off a “flash of light” (Dicker, 2016; Idaho Fertility Center, 2019). Dickerson explains
the findings of a scientific study were scientists observed zinc exploding in a similar manner to
fireworks when a human egg is penetrated by a sperm enzyme. The scientists reported that the
intensity of the explosion or sparks gave indication of the odds of the egg developing into a
viable and healthy embryo. Genuine sperm was not used but only the zinc enzyme due to laws
restricting research on actual human beings.
The scientists reported, “A press release explains the science behind the phenomenon:
"As the zinc
is released from the egg, it binds to small molecule probes, which emit light in
fluorescence microscopy
experiments. Thus, the rapid zinc release can be followed as a flash of light that appears
as a spark”.
They reported that five years prior they had discovered the spark caused by the zinc in a mouse,
and that watching the light radiate from the human egg was breathtaking. They also said that this
would help them with invitro fertilization by having the option to choose the egg with the
strongest emission of light, increasing the chances of viability. I feel like this is like dropping
chicken eggs into a bowl of water to see which ones are good or bad.
The article by the Idaho Fertility Center had similar findings. They reported that out of the 2
million sperm that arrive at their destination of the cervix within the woman’s body only half
make it all the way to the uterus, and of those, only 10,000 make it to the top of the uterus. Of
those, only 5,000 go in the correct direction of the actual egg. Only 1000 make it to the fallopian
tube, and then only 200 make it to the egg, and then only 1 makes it to the egg for fertilization.
Once that happens, they observed literal sparks, similar to that if fireworks, much like was
explained by the article by Dicker (2016).
In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, He spoke and said, “Let there
be light” and there was light. I believe that applies to humans when His breath enters the body
that is formed as the sperm enters the egg. All of creation shows the glory of God (Complete
Jewish Bible, 2016, Psalms 19:1: Romans 1:20), and the more we can observe with expanding
scientific advances, the more His presence is shown and proven.

Tanna,
I appreciate your reply on Taylor's post. I have a family member that struggled with connecting
with her baby while she was pregnant with her and then afterwards as well. Now that the baby is
almost 20, there has been some healing that has taken place, but it has been a long and difficult
road, and especially hard as a grandmother watching the two of them struggle so much. There
has been resentments on both sides. Fortunately they are both believers and are both trying to
listen to the heart of the Father in this. That baby has a father that has rejected her at a very
young age and has saidvery hurtful things to her, but she has a strong sense of humor and
resiliency that has carried her through all of these difficult situations. She is better adjusted than
many people I know who have had significantly less traumatic experiences, confirming the
Collective Optimization with Compensation (COC) model mentioned by Lerner (2018) that you
included in your own discussion board post.

I meant to say "Selective" not "Collective" making it SOC not COC. My apologies.

Hi Tanna,
I found your post very interesting. The population with which I work is mostly middle schoolers,
and some high schoolers as well. I have found the same phenomenon: How resilient some
adolescents and children can be when the situations in which they have suffered are so often
traumatic and difficult when others come from almost sheltered situations seem to suffer more at
the slightest bump in their environment. The majority of work we do is emotional regulation,
Relationship development seems to be key for teaching and learning emotional regulation
(Delahooke, 2019).
I find that your story about Joseph confirms this. Joseph seemed to develop relationships in each
position in which he served those who were in charge of him
(Complete Jewish Bible,
2016,
Genesis 37-50). He excelled in each position in which he was placed, earning the respect
of those in charge over him. He had integrity when confronted with moral issues, and proved
himself to be trustworthy, even when falsely accused and imprisoned
(Complete Jewish Bible,
2016,
Genesis 39:7-20)

Hi Tekesia,
Your post resonated with me because I work with adolescents to assist them
in overcoming the impact traumatic experiences have had on them. I took a
class on Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and delving
to the root of behavioral issues that manifest as behavioral or emotional
problems is the focus of this therapy (Cohen, et al., 2017). Part of the
treatment includes identifying and reframing negative thoughts and self-talk
into positive thoughts and encouraging self-talk and managing automatic
responses to internal and external reminders of traumatic experiences.
I have found guiding my clients into a realistic understanding of God's ability
to take broken and seemingly useless circumstances and experiences and
shaping them into something beautiful and useful assists these individuals in
navigating the darkest of experiences and viewing them as something to be
used and not something from which to hide (

situation is all they need to feel empowered enough to continue with
confidence.
