1. Decide which ethical dilemma or issue the case study you have chosen presents.
The main ethical question that comes up is why the principle and other staff members aren't helping
the students who are in danger. Ajay finds himself in a difficult situation where he has to balance his
strong relationship with the principal with his dual duties of providing assistance to the students and
carrying out his duty of care. It is the instructor's explicit duty to report the incident regarding Lee's
noticeable alcohol stench.
But given that the principal wants to deport these children and that there have been recent
improvements in their behaviour, it is possible that the instructor will be reluctant. Because it is
difficult to critically assess leadership and its methods, this poses a challenging situation. By avoiding
taking on too much work, Ajay can protect his mental health and lessen the possibility of negative
effects on his career path.
2. List the interested parties and describe how they might be impacted.
This issue has affected many people, but it has especially affected the classmates who have been
disadvantaged by the principal's and teachers' negligence in providing adequate support for them
during their academic careers.
Lee suffers from the bad effects of not being welcomed at his home and place of education. He also
faces the difficulties of living in an abusive home, which exacerbates his battle with substance abuse.
At the beginning, Lee shows improvement because of the rapport of trust he has with Ajay, his
teacher. Nevertheless, after moving in with his father, who shows no concern for his welfare, his
progress stalls.
As he works to meet his responsibility of care to his students by offering assistance and encouraging
their participation in a setting that guarantees their wellbeing, Ajay is put in a difficult moral
situation. He must also complete his professional responsibilities, which include alerting the principal
to issues like Lee showing up for class smelling of alcohol. Having to report Lee for going to school
while intoxicated is Ajay's responsibility. Nonetheless, Ajay is worried about how best to complete
this report while also making sure Lee gets the help and support he needs. Being an educator, Ajay
must adhere to
the Australian professional standards for educators, which include criteria that must be followed in
terms of law and ethics.
3. What are the messages, both expressed and implied?
• the communication's advantages and disadvantages?
In the oral message, Ajay expresses concern about the possible effects that Lee's mother's move may
have on his wellbeing, specifically with regard to his psychological and academic standing. The
implicit message is that Ajay has gone above and above to take care of Lee and support his academic
endeavours. The person believes that Viv, his mother, is not aware of the possible effects that Lee
could have from the move. Furthermore, this is a perfect opportunity for the principle to assist Lee in
his move. With the ultimate goal of enabling a better state for Lee, it is expected that Ajay and Viv
will converse through the transmission of this communication in order to analyse and evaluate the
current situation.
One of the main advantages is that it gives Viv the opportunity to make sure Lee continues to receive
the support he needs, but it also makes a thorough analysis and discussion of the entire matter
imperative. Ajay conveyed information to Viv in an efficient manner by being clear and concise. The
informal tone of the conversation and the lack of a plan to take more action are the areas of
detected weakness. The person in question has neglected to give Viv a chance to clarify or have a
conversation about the possible impact on Lee and how both of them can work together to keep him
from falling behind academically and to guarantee that his mental health continues to improve.
4. Select two abilities that would assist the main character in the case study in resolving the problem,
from the "Future Work Skills" sheet that you reviewed in Week 1 of this subject. Note: Depending on
whatever case study you selected, James, Maria, Ajay, Simon, or Jill will be the "key character."
Cultivating his social intelligence and improving his sense-making talents are two crucial abilities that
would aid Ajay in solving the puzzle. As stated by Davies et al.
some (2011), The ability to form deep and meaningful connections with people, as well as the
perception and elicitation of desired social interactions, are all considered aspects of social
intelligence. Ajay's capacity to effectively and directly communicate with the principal, other
teachers, and Lee's parents about the implications of this specific issue for Lee would be facilitated
by using this talent. Establishing suitable reactions and interactions that will successfully produce a
favourable learning environment for Lee and their peers is the intended result. Ajay may also employ
sense-making, a cognitive function that deals with the ability to infer the significance or underlying
meaning of the information being communicated. Using this technique, Ajay might get
understanding of the fundamental causes of the school's unwillingness to help disengaged students
during his talk with the principle. To help with future development, Ajay could employ techniques to
make sure Lee and other disengaged kids receive the support they need.
