DISCUSSION ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
The student will complete 2 Discussions in this course. The student will post one thread of at
least 500–600 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned Module: Week. The
student must then post 2 replies of at least 150 words by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the
assigned Module: Week. For each thread, students must support their assertions with at least 2
scholarly citations in current APA format. One of these sources must be from a module reading
(this can be, but is not limited to, the weekly reading referenced in the prompt). The other source must be
from an outside academic source not included in module readings (academic books or peer-reviewed
articles only). Each thread must also include the use of a scriptural reference with accompanying
explanation/application. Finally, threads must include a discussion question posed to the reader related to
the prompt/readings. An APA style reference section must be included at the end on the thread. Each reply
must include quality feedback including the identification of one strength or critique related to the
classmate’s thread.
This course utilizes the Post-First feature in all discussions. This means you will only be able to
read and interact with your classmates’ threads after you have submitted your thread in response to the
provided prompt.
This is a graded discussion:
70 points possible
due Oct 26
Briefly describe an example of excellent teacher behavior and an example of poor teacher behavior that
you have personally experienced as a student (at any grade level). Relate each of these examples to at
least one of the Principles of Effective Teaching discussed in Chapter 1 of your textbook (p. 3) to identify
which principle the teacher did well or did poorly. In the case of the negative experience, what could your
teacher have done differently to improve his/her performance or your experience? Using Scripture,
discuss why it is important for us to continually strive to do our best work whenever possible. Remember
to pose a discussion question in your thread per assignment instructions.

This module’s assigned article by James, Martinez, & Herbers (2015) discusses several effective teaching
methods used by Jesus. Choose one of the methods discussed in the article and, citing Scripture, provide
an example in the Bible where Jesus used the chosen method. Be sure to explain how Jesus used the
technique specifically and how it led to increased engagement of His audience. Then, give a specific
example of how you could use this teaching strategy to engage students in the hypothetical course you
have chosen for this term. Remember to pose a discussion question in your thread per assignment
instructions.
