Summarize the teacher's educational philosophy about teaching children with HI. Identify
2–3 examples of how she applies her beliefs in the video.
The teacher's philosophy is fostering a sense of community, open communication, and
individualized support. The instructor is a firm believer in modifying education to fit the
requirements of each student with HI. The teacher's belief in structuring students' ideas is a
valuable educational philosophy that contributes to effective teaching and learning. This
philosophy emphasizes the importance of helping students organize and express their thoughts,
which can lead to improved communication skills, critical thinking, and academic success. In the
context of teaching children with HI, structuring ideas becomes even more crucial as it can
enhance their ability to convey information and engage in meaningful discussions. The teacher
believes in tailoring instruction to meet the unique needs of each student with HI.
This is
demonstrated by providing one-on-one support when needed. The teacher works closely with a
student with HI to help them understand the lesson content, offering individualized explanations
and guidance.
The teacher also believes in building a strong relationship with students. The
teacher modifies materials and resources to make them accessible to students with HI and uses
technology if the second teacher in the classroom is not available. The teacher believed that
students with HI require extra attention, which enables teachers to customize instruction and
support to suit these needs. Fidgets are a need to help the students who have ADD.

Describe 3–5 strategies that the teacher uses to support students with HI.
Among the strategies the teacher used were graphic organizers, the basic five senses,
Teacher's Aid, and technology. Whether created on paper or digitally, graphic organizers aided
students in their written work and improved their writing abilities. The teachers also use a word
bank. With a word bank at their disposal, students can approach their writing or class discussions
with a more organized perspective. They can carefully pick phrases and words that communicate
the message they want to convey. Encouraging students to use their five senses as a part of their
learning process is a powerful educational approach that taps into their innate abilities and helps
them develop a deeper understanding of the world around them. This multisensory approach not
only enhances learning but also promotes engagement and retention. The presence of a second
adult in the classroom, whether it be a co-teacher or a teacher's aide, can be a very successful
method for enhancing instruction and catering to the different needs of the students.
Rushing to identify disabilities and to place students in special education has proven unnecessary
and may have contributed to the overidentification of some student populations and overlooking
others who should have been identified and appropriately served (Harry and Klingner 2006).
Teachers can offer more specialized help to students, especially those with a variety of learning
challenges or special needs when there is an additional adult present in the classroom. This
makes sure that every student gets the care and support they need. In order to differentiate
instruction and create lessons that are appropriate for each student's talents, interests, and
learning preferences, co-teachers and assistants can collaborate. All students, especially those
who require additional support or a challenge, benefit from this flexibility.
