Column One Column Two Column Three CEC’s Professional Ethics What does this mean to you? Or define the ethical principle in your own terms. What learning activities or opportunities do you think could expand your professional skills, abilities, and knowledge of this ethical principle? 1. Maintaining challenging expectations for individuals with exceptionalities to develop the highest possible learning outcomes and quality of life potential in ways that respect their dignity, culture, language, and background. To me this means don’t bring the level of difficulty down to a level in which the learner won’t be challenged in some way. This will help the learner develop higher quality learning outcomes. Create lessons and assignments that are challenging yet also create a path to the highest possible amount of material being learned. 2. Maintaining a high level of professional competence and integrity and exercising professional judgment to benefit individuals with exceptionalities and their families. Stay professional at all times in order to help learners and their families. Maintain professional standards, keep up with practicing teaching etiquette and communication. 3. Promoting meaningful and inclusive participation of individuals with exceptionalities in their schools and communities. Include the learners with exceptionalities to strengthen relations with others Create activities and assignments that combine groups of students 4. Practicing collegially with others who are providing services to individuals with exceptionalities. Learn from others who are in the same field Reach out to other educators and learn from their experiences. 5. Developing relationships with families based on mutual respect and actively involving families and individuals with exceptionalities in educational decision making. Be in contact with the learners’ families while informing and communicating the educational process. Create a schedule with parents for check ins and reports on how their child is processing throughout the academic year. 6. Using evidence, instructional data, research, and professional knowledge to inform practice. Keep up on research and data to stay up to date. Research more information on the subject of special education on a regular basis.
