Report
Reflection and Synthesis Report Name: Week: Instructions In the table provided below, you will complete your reflection and synthesis responses for this week. Be sure to complete each Response section. When referencing scripture or other materials, only include a brief or abbreviated summary along with the citation as these cannot be included in the required word count. When you have completed the document, save it to your computer and follow the instructions in your course to submit the assignment to your instructor. Did you complete all the assigned reading for the week? [Yes or No ] Article of Faith Please list the Article(s) of Faith covered this week Response: “We believe in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.” Explanation of Key Events and Scriptures Demonstrate your comprehension of fundamental truths of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and your ability to use the scriptures to teach them. Be sure to include specific scripture references, focusing especially on restoration scriptures (Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, Pearl of Great Price). Scenario: Imagine you have been asked by a family member or friend to share what you believe about the truths and events you studied this week. Share in your own words several insights as though you are really trying to teach someone. Include at least three scripture references to support the truths you teach (you may reference them, but there is no need to quote them). Share your testimony as you would when teaching someone. Your response will be evaluated by the following criteria: 200–300 words in length (please include your word count at the bottom of the section). Include at least 3 references. Response: 3rd Nephi 27:1-12 There is a lot of useful information in just the first line. I had no idea how it says the disciples were united in prayer and fasted. This, I believe, is a vital reminder of how much power there is in the combination of prayer and fasting. Another thing that struck me about those words was how important it is to accept His name upon us and the privileges that come with it. We can be given eternal life, serenity, and so much more. Finally, these passages emphasize the significance of accepting His name upon us and utilizing it to be a light in the world. Everything we do must adhere to His example and teachings. D&C 20:1-4 & 38-60 Verses 1-4 discuss the restoration and how things are ordered to happen through the grace of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. The functions of the priesthood are discussed in verses 38-60. An elder, for example, can baptize and ordain members of the lesser levels of the priesthood, such as deacons and instructors. D&C 107:1-1 The titles and functions of the two types of the priesthood, the Aaronic and the Melchizedek, are discussed in these lines. I had no idea the Aaronic Priesthood was also known as the Levitical Priesthood. The Melchizedek is the highest title, and those who possess it have the authority to do whatever in the church will benefit its
members. Word Count: 226 Synthesis: Personal Relevance and Application to the Real World There are many serious challenges people encounter on a daily basis that are consequences of living in a fallen world. The gospel truths taught in the Articles of Faith have tremendous power to help people find answers, rise above problems, or simply feel God's love and concern for them again. Each week you will choose an issue (below) and think deeply about how the truths in that week’s Article of Faith can offer hope to those who are experiencing the problem. If you have another issue that particularly interests you, then poverty racial strife/hatred religious intolerance/persecution threats to religious liberty same-sex marriage suicide Scenario: Imagine you are speaking to someone who has experienced or has concerns about the issue you have chosen. What would you share from the doctrine and fundamental truths that you have studied this past week to help that person? Include why you think these truths and doctrine are helpful and what they have meant to you. Be encouraging with the truths you know. Write a response in at least 300-450 words, and list your word count at the end of your response. The world problem/issue I chose this week is: International Terrorism Response: I picked this problem for the week because of the current situation in Ukraine and Russia. This is particularly unfortunate since these two countries are on the verge of war, which will have far-reaching consequences for the rest of the globe. People are suffering financially, and the situation will be ten times worse for the entire planet. Not to mention people living in Ukraine, who are well-known throughout the world, or families suffering because they must now leave the nation, unsure of what will happen. War is frightening because everything that happened on 9/11 left a large scar on the world, and now that we have concluded a mess, we began in the Middle East and are now attacking Europe since World War II. It upsets me because people fear being murdered and having everything they need to survive. We are entering another conflict that will never end well, especially given as the globe is still attempting to heal itself after Covid-19. So the church released a message on the need for peace right now. Assume individuals are deliberate about their activities and consider the correct image of dealing with things here with calm thoughts and attempting to be kind to heal any connections that might cure any difficulties. I pray for all those suffering in Ukraine now, and I hope that no more lives are wasted due to foreign terrorism. Word Count: 265
