3 THEO G JBRAZ LIBERTY
I hope you are having a great week! I found your explanation of biblical inerrancy and the importance of basic theological beliefs informative and well thought out. You mentioned that biblical inerrancy is a significant issue that ties into whether your faith is accepted as truthful or, more so, false. The thought of biblical inerrancy being a hinge is a perfect example of how we claim truth. Your insight into Erickson's "Full Inerrancy" is insightful. I liked how you stressed that the bible is primarily a theological book but is also scientifically and historically supported. The Bible was not necessarily written to serve history or science but to communicate about God and his dealings with men regarding spiritual and moral issues. This being stated, I think it is very important that it is supported by both so that the faithful may be able to give multiple angles of argument and support for it inerrancy. t acknowledges that the biblical authors took certain liberties in telling their accounts that were not essential to the passage's message. I think this is a very reasonable position because it still recognizes the integrity of the Holy Spirit’s revelation through the author, and it does not make the Bible untrustworthy to modern readers as we can understand that the original audience and biblical authors are very different from us today. This position shows its adherence to the biblical narrative without trying to underscore our scientific or historical understanding of our world today or that of the biblical characters. Your emphasis on the importance of this doctrine to the modern-day church is well argued. If the inerrancy of the Bible can be proven as not truthful, then our faith could be, “like a house of cards,” as you rightly said. For the modern church to teach and communicate the doctrine of inerrancy, it is important to maintain the integrity and witness of the church in the face of an increasingly skeptical world. In the scenario you proposed, suppose the teachings of the Bible are untrustworthy when the text can be tested. In that case, this may call into question the authority of its teachings in areas that cannot be tested, potentially weakening the foundation of our faith; this is a great perspective you presented. Thank you for presenting such a clear analysis of this week’s text! This also brought about perspectives that I did not consider in my initial thoughts while reading this week’s material. Best,
